11. Many people at the time (and since) have opposed America’s actions in the Mexican-American war. What were the United Sates reasons for going to war with Mexico, and why did the Mexicans seem to want war as much as the United States did? What strategies did both sides employ? Horace Greenly said “ a nation cannot simultaneously devote its energies to the absorption of others territories and the improvement of its own.” Whilst the Mexican and American war were widely supported in the south and west, many in the north eat opposed it, calling it a “wicked and disgraceful war,” as America forced itself upon the state because they resisted annexation or money for claim to their land. The U.S. seemed to want to increase their size by any means and when Mexicans attacked American troops stationed in the city by orders of President Polk, it provided a concrete reasons to resort to war.
