[Fanfic] #006 Drabbles - One more step

Because we’re aware of the arrival of this day.

Two pairs of legs, two pairs of boots, are jaunting in the streets that are surfaced by the snow. Soft, white, fluffy stuff should be romantic, but it’s filling up and making their footprints disappear - as if carrying a hint that it’s covering everything, it’s erasing everything. Couple carrying names of Donghae and Hyukjae hold hands with uncertainties, but they are certain that - both of them do not carry mutual feelings anymore.

Thank you for being wonderful, I will not forget you.

Silence as their companion, the only thing that comes out from their mouths is the hot steam. Hyukjae sniffs, a tear drops, nobody cares - or rather, both of them agreed on not to care. Hands are still locked, they pauses. Hyukjae looks through the clear glass pane with his pair of moist eyes. He smiles, Donghae too. A week ago, they were just like any of the couples out there, enjoying their Christmas night inside. The restaurant that Donghae made a reservation, the food that Donghae had done research on, the violinist that Donghae hired with his two months’ salary from his part-time job, rushed back into their memories like it just happened yesterday. Hyukjae turns and signals Donghae to continue moving.

We’re strolling, we’re being cruel to ourselves, but we’ve already expected it.

The couple finally speaks. They call each other’s names at the same time and an awkward pause barges in. They won’t speak, until five minutes later.

“I knew it, way before.” Hyukjae manages to break the pause.

“Me too.”

“Siwon.”

“Jongwoon.”

Both of them laugh. Hands still couldn’t bear to part.

Please do not cry like this is a surprise.

Hyukjae apologises, Donghae too. Tears are already visible. They laugh again and wipe each other’s feelings.

“Don’t cry.” They said it, as if on cue.

“Just one more step, we will part. Okay?” Donghae pinches Hyukjae’s cheeks lightly.

“Okay.”

One more step, that’s all that we have left.
