Nobody told me. Until today (thanks Amanda) that there is a button for adding friends. So, if I've suddenly popped up in your list, blame Amanda.

I have to say though, even though I now know it's there, I still have to hunt for that button. There's got to be a better way.

Do you use the link that says: 'Add them to your friends' which appears under the username whose lj-you are just looking at? It's a mighty small link for sure but I got used to it over time. *lol*
