Didn't Seven Walls come out of a meme like this? Just saying, that's all ;)

Here's my prompt:
SGA, any female character, something they are prevented from doing because they are female.

Sgt. Dusty Mehra took a certain amount of pride in not only being as tough as any other marine, but as vulgar and coarse when she wanted to be. It annoyed her that most commanders would ignore or even encourage a male marine with a filthy mouth, but she was expected to act like a 'lady'. Well, Dusty said, if only to herself, fuck that shit.

And then she usually said it out loud, too, punctuating the declaration by spitting her gum between the feet of whoever had pissed her off. (While she was a tough as any marine, she wasn't stupid enough to chew tobacco. Besides, gum was more useful.)

Yes, she was hard as nails, mean as a rabid rattlesnake, and smart as a whip. Just as good? Hell, she was better.

But there was one thing the marines of Atlantis were asked to do offworld that she never had been: donate sperm.

Dusty was just fine with that.

Eiii! I loved this. I'm usually weary of a fic purposefully dealing with just women issues, because more often than not, I find it to be too much (if that makes any sense) and then I feel like I'm failing my fellow woman by not loving it as much as I should and guilt never lets me enjoy fics. But I wanted to read one that wouldn't make me feel guilty, and I get this! This rocks! Lighthearted, yet, completely kick-ass. Go Dusty!

That is awesome. I love it. As a woman working in a largely male industry (IT, especially database-related work like data analyst and DBA), I sympathize completely. I get so sick of the same expectation. But after 3 years, a periodically vulgar mouth and a public indifference to the kind of humor women are supposed to shy away from, I get to hear all of the funny yo-mama jokes (no, really, they make me laugh) and swear when I really want to do so. It's a freedom that you wouldn't miss until you had to do without it.

But there are advantages to being a woman sometimes. I loved that touch. Awesome.
