Action Sequences

ACTION

You can have too much action.

Don't worry, it's not a problem for most of us. Certain people have heard me say, over and over and over, ad nauseam, I hate writing action scenes. I don't think I'm alone. So, because I hate them and try to avoid them, I work hard to include them ( Read more... )

Very interesting post, though I'm actually posting about something different!
Just read your mahoosively long fic "Like Walking On Knives" and had to comment, but didn't know if you'd see it, so posted here!

Umm...don't really know what to say, it was amazing. You managed to get me so hooked that I only watched 1/2 of West Wing (which I adore) so that I could read this! I love this fic, it's definitely one of my faves now.

Your characterisation of Sark was great, very believable. (Could say that for all characters actually!) Loved the history you gave him. Often the whole Syd/Sark siblings story can be written as cliched and soapish, but you managed to pull it off.
You also managed to kill off a character that I like, yet in a way where you can't really criticise it. To begin with I worried about who you were gonna kill off, but then I got so engrossed in the fic that it didn't matter. Then with the ambush at the bank I was terrified it'd be Sark (that part literally had me at the edge of my seat) and when it finally happened, it seemed silly to not have realised who it would be.

I especially liked-
Description of Sark's feelings/history for/with Allison. Liked the Allison's character from where she's mentioned.

Sark's snarky bits of humour.

Sark's complicated relationship with Irina. Very interesting history.

This is a pretty unorganised review, but I'm still kind of reeling and pretty tired too, so I'll try to write a better one some other time. Thank you for writing such a wonderful fic! It'll definitely help come the 28th when I'll be cursing all Americans with access to TVs, and needing to read lots of fic, to help me wait until S3 finally gets to the UK! :)

-Also read and loved your fic Belfast, which is pretty weird cause I normally Sarkney

You normally Sarkney what? This is going to drive me crazy. Hate it? Just don't care one way or the other? Think it's so flat out ridiculous all you can do is laugh?

But thank you for the compliments to Knives---and Belfast.

Until I read this, it never occurred to me anyone might think Sark would die at the bank, because I knew he didn't. So the suspense there was inadvertant.

Oops, sorry about that, should have checked the post over, but I was in a bit of a rush. And your first guess was right. I normally hate Sarkney, not sure why. I think it's that I don't like the idea of Sark falling for Sydney just like everyone else. (I wouldn't mind a fic where Syd falls for Sark but the feelings aren't returned, but at the moment I think it'd probably more likely be the other way around.)

I do sometimes read Sarkneys though, when I'm in desperate need of a bit of a well written Sark, and can't finy any elsewhere, and then I tend to leave them half read. (It's quite annoying just how good writers Sarkney shippers are!)
And so that was a compliment! :)

Btw, have you ever felt the urge to write a Lauren/Sark or Allison/Sark fic? Please? :)
