the rest of the caymans, and maybe a bit of time with dom

so, let's see, where did i leave off?

so, after our huge meal and catchphrasing of saturday (in which i realized how similar mish and schmitty are, and i'm ok with that) we all just passed out. i woke up sunday and felt so refreshed and revived i thought we'd all slept in. i checked my phone and it said it was 11am, which isn't quite sleeping in but i did have big plans for going out to sting ray city, and i knew that would be at least 4 hours, and i also knew we wanted to go to the movie at 5:20, so i was eager to get moving.
i woke schmitty up (much to his dismay) and tramped us into the shower, made breakfast and even read some of the paper. we lay back down and schmitty took a nap. i even tried to make a little extra noise, hoping it would coax nirv and mish out of their bedrooms, but all to no avail. eventually they woke up, and my clock said it was 3pm, so i was a little dissapointed that we wouldn't get to beach or snorkel, but i was determined to at least get to the movie.
perhaps i should take now to point out that they had JUST moved, so there was no clock in the house, and they hadn't gotten the tv or internet hooked up. so, when we were sitting around we were actually just sitting around. we talked, we napped, we read some bryson (we've been reading "a short history of nearly everything" to each other), and i had absolutely no inclination that my phone may have, somehow, gotten off time.
but, it had. i made a few comments to mish and nirv about how we need to hurry to make it to the movie, and they were like "why" and i say "well, it's 3:30" and they start laughing. i go check the clock in their room, as well as their phones and it's only 11am then! i'd dragged poor schmitty out of bed at 8am, and we hadn't even gone to bed until maybe 2 or 3. oye vey!
so, anyway, we all get ready, and decide to switch to using nirvs car, because it uses significantly less gas than mish's suv. we tried to figure out which beach to go to, because it was still really really windy (we'd put off snorkeling before because i'd been so windy), and basically gave up on sting ray city because of the wind. we did stop in to a few places to see if we could find a tour, but they'd all just left. finally, Just as we were giving up, we caught sight of a diving shop who also did rentals. we figured we could just as easily rent the equipment, stop off at a good spot, and do it ourselves. sure, we might not feed stingrays, but we'd been told by one of the other places they weren't doing the tours anyway because of the waves. best of all, it was only $7CI to rent for 36 hours! hot damn!
too bad we only had two hours, but we made the best of it. we went to eden's rock, right on 7 mile beach (yay. got to show him the beach, too) and i got the best gift of all. when we came out for a breather and somethign to eat, schmitty said to me "you'd been making a big deal about it, and i didn't think it would be all that special, but this is great!". i'd known he would like it, but was worried he wouldn't. it was great to know i hadn't made a big deal over nothing.
we even went into the deep water. it was difficult enough getting IN the water, because there were these big ole nasty looking fish hanging out where people get in, and they were NOT afraid of humans. we scuttled right out into the water and quickly found some reef. it also got deep quick enough, and pretty soon i couldn't even dive down for a closer look (because my ears have been REAL sensitive to pressure ever since last time i came to cayman and had all the ear drama). the reef seemed to go on forever, but then just as suddenly as it appeared it disappeared, and seeing the ocean floor so far beneath made it really apparent how deep the water was, and that started to really scare me. the water was a bit murky because of the stirred up sand, so it was hard to see too far in front of us, and i was terrified of sharks and the unkown. we talked to another couple who had been snorkeling, too, and they told us that we HAD to go to the deep water, because that's where you saw turtles and rays. so, heading back out, schmitty held my hand and i held in my fear, and while we didn't see turtles, we did see rays, so that was awesome.
and also, perfect timing. just as schmitty and i were packing everything back up, mish and nirv showed up. we got to the theatre a little late, so we missed the first few minutes of the movie, but it was still excellent.
it's another one of those situations where if no one had told me it was about religion, i wouldn't have known it was about religion. and also, if christians are upset because it's accurately portraying people defying their religion, they should be more worried about their religion. as long as the church isn't full of kidnapping, life ruining dictators, then they don't have a lot to be worried about. i felt like it was more about fighting "the man" than anything else.
all in all, a pretty decent movie. not harry potter, but way better than most movies for kids. i would recommend it before many other movies, and especially if you like the harry potter kind of movies :)
afterwards they dropped us off at the house while going to get emmie from dadi's, and we closed the night by watching "i now pronounce you chuck and larry" and "school for scoundrels".

monday was a pretty rough day. we didn't really want to leave, but knew we had to. we played with emmie one last time. she cried at schmitty one last time. we played catchphrase one last time. we realized we'd left the car seat in nirv's car, but we also had to get to the airport. thank goodness for "island" laws, because we were able to strap her in on my lap, and nirv met us at the airport. then it was holding back tears and hugs goodbye, and realizing we might not see each other for god knows how many years. but we've made it through all the other years, so we'll make it through those, too.

anyway, i had an argument with cayman airport security, because they wanted to throw out one of my prescriptions, because the scrip wasn't on the outside (even tho it said rx only on the outside) there was some anger and frustration, but we got it resolved by checking schmitty's bag with the scrip in it. ugh. i've taken that with me all across europe and america, and they tell me i can't bring it home. whatever. our flight was a little delayed, but we had bryson so it was ok. then it was goodbye warm weather, hello america.
by the way, the atlanta airport is really nice.
we got back to dc with no troubles and plenty to eat, and we only had to play a few rounds of musical chairs to make sure we'd be sitting next to each other. but i was still pretty grumpy to be back, and low on patience after that much flying. we made it to the car, after a few mistaken bus stops, and it thankfully not as cold as we'd been afraid it would be.
back home echo was there to greet us because they'd decided to call of quiz night (our team had). we caught up for missed time and i got a phone call from dom telling me he was in the city, and we made plans for meeting up on tuesday. then to bed, for a well earned sleep.

ok. i can't quite remember everything dom and i did, and i need to get back to cleaning. at least we're back in the same week. right? not quite? well, we're close.
also, i'm dealing with the being unemployed this month pretty well.
