i know it's a bit redundant, but these skandinavian countries are cold!
actually, the weather says it's going to be about 68 to 70 today, which is like, wow warm. (so...cold)
i think i left off with our last day in oslo. we went out to the country to see where inga grew up, and spent the afternoon driving around inga's old stomping grounds. we went to the viking museum (fun pictures will follow) and a super old church, and in general enjoyed the beauty of rural-ish norway. after the museum and marte, and the glass blowing town, we went back to inga's parents house where they had made a smorgasborg of food for us to eat. super tastey crepe like pancakes filled my belly, with current sherry and blackberry jam. schmitty was giddy with all the food options.
needless to say, her parents are adorable.
all that good luck we had in germany not having to pay for trains was exactly the opposite in norway, because we had to pay for every train and boy were they pricey. and no, jenna, it's not karma, it's a better monitored train system.
we went to a park to hear an impromptu concert of sorts, and met up with many of inga's friends and old classmates. one of them was holding a houseparty that evening, so we all went over there about 9 (you know, when the sun began to set) and had a good time drinking soju and sociaizing.
of course, being the old fuddy's we are, inga and i were buzzed and sleepy by midnight, so we hustled out early to catch the last bus back to her place. the evening was ended with the traditional marathon of scrubs and passing out about 3am.
the next morning i woke up early and made waffles for everyone while schmitty did laundry. then there was a spree of packing and hoping time would slow down a little.
inga took us to the train station and sent us on our way, and that was the end of oslo (no tears this time. i think we're fairly certain we'll see each other again)
landing in helsinki, i was mostly suprised by how similar to oslo it seemed. at least in the populace and apparent makeup of it's city. we haven't been to the city center yet, tho, so i'll get a better idea today.
last night we just stayed in with anna and her boyfriend matias, made linguini formaggio and salad and spent the evening playing tekken while taking turns in the sauna (boys then girls).
still looking for a place to stay in london. why is that city so damn expensive?
