Never know how much I love you, never know how much I care...

I felt ill all last night - scratchy voice and sore throat, not to mention sinus pressure from hades - and woke up a hair's breadth from Hades. I was pleased to see that both roommates were gone when I got up and tried to practice for the audition ( Read more... )

it's so funny that teachers are always so excited to find an alto. i always felt like i wasn't *good* enough to be a soprano or something until someone pointed out that anyone with an annoying enough headvoice can pass as a soprano, but being an alto takes talent.

suck on that, sopranos.

...what, me bitter? never!

Every voice requires just as much work as the others. Being a soprano has absolutely nothing to do with having "an annoying enough headvoice" or anything. It's simply what you were born with or not.

No one voice type is more or less special than another - if you can communicate with your voice effectively, then it's a special voice.

What I am is someone who has put a lot into my own voice (coming on to ten years now to get it worked out and start getting some professional success), and someone who has worked with a lot of other people to help them use them use it.

And for the record, also someone who started as a mezzo and came to realize that she was a soprano, despite actually WANTING to be a mezzo. :P

"being an alto takes talent" - any voice takes talent. You are what you are, and if you're a mezzo, you're a mezzo, and god knows, there's a whole shebang of mezzo rep I couldn't sing on my best day...and there's a whole bunch of rep I sing that the average mezzo couldn't do, either.

It's pretty damned insulting to insinuate that others, because of having a different voice, didn't have to work at it, or do anything out of the ordinary.

And yes, I'm a fucking bitch, and fully aware of it. :)

That is, someone who has helped a lot of other people learn how to use their own instrument.
