In Back to the Future 2, in Marty's 2015 home there is a indoor garden that drops out of the ceiling in the kitchen (or dining room). While many have drooled over other inventions in the movie, most notably the Mattel
Hoverboard and the self sizing Nike Kicks, I want the hidden kitchen garden.
Sears currently has on sale a lift meant to store boxes in the garage but I think if I attached a platform to the bottom and connected it to a remote controlled motor, I could hide an aeroponic or hydroponic garden in the ceiling. My condo has a concrete ceiling with no attic or crawl space but in the kitchen there is a drywall ceiling with a twenty one inch gap between it and the concrete ceiling. My kitchen lamp hangs an additional 13" without causing trouble, so if I incorporated light into the bottom of the platform, I might be able to get about two and a half feet of vertical space. There would be lots of details to work out but it would be pretty sweet if I was able to make it work. Currently my only experience is with an AeroGarden, but that has worked pretty good... I'm constantly trying to find something to do with all of the basil it pumps out. The garden I'm thinking of creating would probably be equal to about twenty AeroGardens. Only certain crops would be grown up there due to space constraints and the need for all the crops to have similar environmental needs.
So, we shall see... I've got so many other home improvement projects that I should take of first but when I saw the lift on sale, it inspired me.
