Death of Auberon

May 12, 2008 12:20

The one thing in Auberon’s life that was quiet and private was his death. There was no villain’s monologue, no observing crowd, just he in his killer in a private chamber. Old instincts might have told him not to trust his sister, might have kept him alive just a little longer. But the truth was, he no longer cared. Looking into time without end all he saw was loss, loneliness and the lack of the one being he thought would be with him through it all. The iron blade was almost a kindness when it found his heart, and Sulwyn did not look upon him with anything but kindness. He said simply, “Tell her that I loved her until I died.” Her short nod of agreement was all that he waited for before slipping away. Leaving his killer with his crown and his power.
