That night, there are thousands down in the tunnels. Crawling like ants. Worker ants, on and off the trains, single file, clustered together, moving as one. Each one completely oblivious of the others. Nearly 10pm and it was rush hour on the Miranda Subway ( Read more... )

Phedre was on the train heading back to the Scarlett Room from New Tokyo where she had spent the day on the movie set with Aaron Echolls. She'd done so far what she thought to be a pretty good job establishing a relationship with him in only a few short days - which basically involved figuring exactly what he wanted, denying it, but feeding into his assumption that he'd be getting it soon as long as he kept her around. With a man like Echolls, that had been a pretty easy task ( ... )

"Whoops," Zuu said brightly, flipping open her mobile com in hopes of more light. Her face glowed a strange sort of purple, and she flashed a bright smile at Phedre as she stuffed the cash she'd just swiped from a gentleman's pocket into her bra.

"Can't remember the last time I was stuck on the tubes... Kind of exciting, eh Phedre?"

"I'm not sure if that's the word for it," Phedre sighed. "It's late and I'm tired and I'd prefer to be home."

"You're no fun, you know that?" Zuu grinned. "We're in a dark train with lots of strangers, there is plenty of fun to be had."

Phedre lifted an eyebrow. "I don't pick pockets, Zuu."

Zuu pretended to look offended by the assumption that theft had been what she had in mind, and then laughed. "Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of... lots of people, a dark place... Might be a good place to have a good time. Who knows, maybe you'll stumble upon a knight in shiny armor. Who'll, like, wisk you off into the sunset or whatever it is knights do."

Phedre laughed. "I think I've missed some logic here about what knights have to do with darkened subways, though. I get the feeling you just want to plop yourself down in some guy's lap for the hell of it."

"How else do you pick out the knights from the naves, eh?" Zuu asked with a grin. "Gotta sit in a lot of laps to find a good one, what better place than here?"

"I prefer to be able to see them first, rather than groping blindly in the dark," said Phedre. "And right now, the only lap I can see is yours."

"Well, you're welcome to sit in it, Phedre. However, I can assure you I don't own any armor," Zuu laughed. "Do have a sword somewhere though... nicked it during a heist."
