Joe tried to answer, but all that came out was some garbled garbage.
Eventually he managed to spit out the sock, and if he hadn't been blindfolded he'd have been glaring. "What? No. Not... playing anything. Could you maybe... Oh, I don't know, untie me maybe? That would be fantastic."
"Certainly." Fraser dropped into a crouch, pausing just as his hands reached the young man's bonds. "Are you certain you wouldn't like to find your own way out of this?" His father would say it built character, which was precisely why Fraser avoided saying so now. "You'll find if you contort your arms just right, they'll be free in a jiffy."
"What? I just got knocked out and left tied up in an ally," Joe said, trying to turn over. "I don't want to contort if there is someone who can untie me. Do you think this is funny or something?"
"Certainly not," said Fraser, though his answer would of course be different were he to be the one tied up. "I take survival stratagem quite seriously."
Bending down, he loosed the knot at the boy's wrists. "Try it now."
Giving up on having the stranger untie him, Joe squirmed until he managed to get his wrists free. Yanking off the blindfold, he rubbed his wrists and frowned.
He started on his ankles next, fighting with the tight knots.
"I'm afraid not." Fraser nodded at the mouth of the alley where a wolf sat on its haunches, clearly sulking even to a stranger's eyes. "Diefenbaker mistook you for a pizza," Fraser explained, pulling a stray piece of pepperoni from the boy's shoulder.
Fraser held out his hand at last. "Benton Fraser. If you don't mind my asking, why would someone wish to knock you unconscious and leave you bound and blindfolded in a semi-public alleyway?"
"That's kind of... classified, actually," Joe said, figuring that was as good an explanation as he could really offer. "I think they were hoping to steal some information, leaving me in the ally was just for kicks."
"Classified?" Fraser looked back down the alleyway to Dief, subtly giving the young man another once over as he looked back. "I see. Do you suppose they got what they were after?"
Joe sat down heavily on the crate, and squinted up at the other man. "You have some sort of ID?" he asked, deciding he wasn't going to let some guy give him 'ointment' until he knew who he was.
Fraser's "Certainly" was a tad belated as he fished in his pockets for his Citizen's Card. Dief appeared suddenly at his side and gave a happy bark. His own papers were immaculate, of course.
"Yes, I'm getting to yours," Fraser told the bothersome wolf, producing his own shabby card for Joe's inspection.

"Man, I'm really hungry. You like cheeseburgers? The Bar and Sizzle does these fantastic ones... with bacon."
