Red Dawn

I am currently watching one of the most bizarre, hilarious movies ever! (We do that a lot in my group of friends.) It is called Red Dawn, and it is about when the Soviets and Cubans take over midwest American in World War III. A group of 8 high schoolers manages to escape, and apparently save the day. I am not that far yet. Perfect movie for a good laugh!

So this is just a crazy busy week for the Honors Program. Yesterday we had our first Study Abroad Night. Johanna put it all together and she did an AWESOME job! A bunch of Honors kids who have studied abroad came with their pictures (mostly on their laptops) and talked about their experience. It was informal and you could just go from table to table and ask questions. It was informative and fun at the same time. I really enjoyed myself.

Mark Meyer and I are co-chairing the committee that is creating the Freshman Honors Orientation Day in August. We had our first meeting yesterday and it went really well. It is going to be a lot of work, but well worth it. We have a schedule for the day already, we made that at the retreat. The main parts are an introduction, cool things about honors, a USEFUL tour of campus, ice breakers, and team building activities. I hope we are able to get the amphitheater so it can all be outside. Things are always more fun when they are in the amphitheater.

Today we had another Honors Tea Talk. They occur quite often, but I could never go last semester because I had class at that time. Dr. McElrath, the library archivist, gave a tour of the archives in the library. She also pulled a lot of stuff out of the archives related to AU history and cool unique artifacts from the special collections so we could see what exists in those back rooms. I was worried it might be kind of boring, but actually it was quite interesting. The turnout was a little low, but everyone who went enjoyed it. Katie Blue is going to talk to the academic activities comittee and see if we can have Dr. McElrath do a talk on the time when AU was uber progressive or the feminist movement at AU because those are both big yet interesting topics! I am excited!

Tomorrow is PROSPIE DAY!!! YAY! Actually, prospective students have practically taken over campus at this point. Haha. But tomorrow the Honors accepted prospective students come visit and stay overnight. I did it last year, and met a couple of people who now live on my floor and I am good friends with. Katie Blue's boyfriend is one of them! Yay for Jack, we even talked all summer which was really cool! (He is sitting right next to me right now lol) Almost all of my friends got at least one prospie, so we have big plans for them! We are taking them to our favorite dessert place, Kramer Books and Cafe on Dupont Circle. Then I am running the midnight game of capture the flag with Mike Miska and Lindsey Marburger, which I had a lot of fun doing last year. I really just thought it was cool that they planned fun stuff to do at midnight since I was usually asleep by then since I left for school before 7 am.

Movie's over, time to do homework!!! (Really that's not exciting at all, sorry)
