So YAAAAY! The Brain Bowl was AWESOME! Although our turn-out wasn't as big as it could've been, there were still a good number of people who came, including several professors who weren't even in the Brain Bowl itself, which was great. Ali did a fabulous job of explaining the details below, so I won't go in depth again. Overall, the professor-student interaction was GREAT! We got them talking and mingling with each other, sparking conversation and creating bonds to last a lifetime. haha Or so I'd like to think. The food was very yummy, and the sushi was a hit! The actual Brain Bowl was entertaining for all, and (woot woot!) the northside team won by over one hundred points. It was great to cheer for everyone, though, since they were all my friends! After that, we played Pin the Mustache on Michael Mass, which was hilarious to watch, especially when Mike Miska (VP of SHB) and Stacy (Prez of SHB) started salsa-ing, while Mike had his blindfold on. I realized tonight that the members of SHB (and also my close friends who came to the event) are the best group of people I could ask for for friends, and that I really love spending time with them!
Now the next SHB event is very much up to me to pull together...and I'm a little nervous! Next Tuesday we're hosting, along with AU Abroad, a Study Abroad Picture Show, where honors students who have studied abroad will come and show their pics and share stories with honors students who want to study abroad. The only glitch is...I don't have many people who have studied abroad signed up yet! I just sent out an email to a HUGE list of honors students who have studied abroad, so hopefully I'll get some response back from that. Also, some SHB members (in their overwhelming greatness) already have asked people they know to participate. So hopefully all will turn out well. There will be free pizza and soda, and that should draw students in!
Tomorrow I have to meet with Dr. Girard, the Chair of the Chemistry department, to figure out when I should take which Chemistry classes. Double majoring in Physics and Chem is, credit-wise, possible. The hard part is (since I want to study abroad), figuring out when certain classes are offered, like semesters and years. There are a few Physics courses I know are only available once while I'm here! Goodness, it's all so complicated. Thankfully, my academic advisor and people like Dr. Girard are super helpful and want to make sure I succeed! Gotta love AU for that!
