well, A.. i disagree. he could have been vanilla and neutral/publicservanty, however his tone and comments are sincere ( he is a sincere guy, he is!) and... warm and complimentary, really. i was surprised. maybe he knows a different obama than we do - a bureaucrat, a narcissistic empty suit, a cowardly and pragmatic, unremarkable and.. lazy ( only bush jr was lazier) president.

fully agree about Obama. But when you work in the executive branch (of which Obama is head), you have to resign before making honest assessment of him. McFaul is obviously not willing to ruin his career, so he sucked up.

i think this is a mix of loyalty ( he is no longer a civil servant, he does not need to worry about hte impact as much, of what he says) - and probably a genuine admiration. perhaps he likes our POTUS>

MF is a simple in the good sense, honest soul. perhaps he just likes O!

Quite possibly you are right, I did not really follow him. You are probably right.

i don't know.. i always sympathized with MF, though he is way too to the left for my tastes, and a bit of a zerstreute professor.

and i never trusted obama.
