[ when the feed comes on, Akaya and Shiraishi can be seen standing nearby - they’re taping via Pokémon today. Both of them have rackets in hand, and judging by the makeshift grass court in the background? It looks like they’re ready to play some tennis. ]

Hey, everybody!! There’s some people in Johto who’ve never played or even heard of tennis ( Read more... )

Is this really tennis?

It's... a lot faster than I thought it'd be. You know, pace-wise.

Well... it's usually a lot slower for beginners, yeah.

That was an intense practice match.

I guess so... more intense than usual, even.

[action] I suppose we do it in Zaizen -> Akaya -> Shiraishi order here? flawlesspoison September 14 2011, 23:56:12 UTC
It felt more like a real match than a practice one, at times.

Oooooooohhhhhhhh. So this is this thing called Tennis. Hmph, whaaaaaaaatever.

[Someone is less than impressed after all the uptalking a certain red-headed member of Hyoutei did.]

You didn't think it was exciting?

You're just hitting a small round thing back and forth. Certainly nothing to think you're better than anyone else.

Huh? We never said we were better than anyone else...

[ Rise may already know how to play, but she's always curious to see an actual match. It's easier to observe when she's not playing it herself and doesn't have to divide her attention into opponent versus self versus ball.

But for a moment, there's just silence. She's there, of course, but it's rather obvious from the look on her face that she didn't expect half of that-- especially the part where Akaya's eyes got all weird.

It's... a little concerning, and she's not sure that she's really all that comfortable with it, but she manages a little laugh. ]

I've got a really long way to go if I'm supposed to be playing like that.

[ despite his exhaustion and general bad mood, he manages a genuine smile for her. ]

Well, we've been playing for a pretty long time so I think we've got a pretty solid head start. Don't worry, you'll catch up.

[ aww, Akaya. Rise's concern doesn't fade, but that prompts an answering, softer smile in response. She certainly can't blame him for not being too happy about the result-- just from playing Yagyuu and observing his teammates, she's got a clear idea of Rikkai expectations. And it's not like she didn't feel much the same when she was wobbly on her feet after that one memorable match. ]

I'm not giving up. I'll just have to keep at it!

That's the spirit! I also have to keep working hard, heh. But it's alright.

[ he says it with this air of, "for sure, next time I'll win." And it's not a matter of being confident, it's a matter of it having to be like that for his own sake. He doesn't like losing to the same person twice - well, unless that person is his captain or vice-captain, but that's different. ]

Good game. Not a lot of explanation involved, really-- [a chuckle, here, amused] --but it's the thought that counts.

Yeah, the explaining part kinda failed to happen. But it's better to learn by example anyways, don't you think?

And what a fine example it was. Though maybe it would've been better to broadcast that match again in slow motion. You know, for the untrained eye.
