America Beyond Capitalism

Ha! I bet you all thought I was never going to post again. Well, I've just proven you wrong. So what prompted me to post after such a long absence? Wouldn't you like to know? I would too. This would all be a lot easier if I could just cut through the tangled mess inside my head and get to the point, but I guess it just doesn't work that way.

Speaking of things not working the way they are supposed to, take a look around you, all around you (assuming you live in the United States). Thats right this country sure as hell isn't working the way that it's supposed to. I'm reading another fascinating book (I do that quite a bit) and this one is about new possibilities. So far its merely shocked me into more fully realizing some things I already knew and put a little more perspective on things for me, but I am sure there is much to come that will blow my mind (BANG). The book is called 'America Beyond Capitalism: Reclaiming Our Wealth, Our Liberty, And Our Democracy' and was written by Gar Alperovitz.

The basic premise behind the book is that the increasing inequality of wealth and the slow erosion of our personal liberties and democracy--is already producing conditions that will force the United States to undergo historic changes and cast off the old mold of capitalism (as currently envisioned) .... into a yet not fully realized new paradigm. But the book goes into many possibilities of what this new system might look like and what is currently happening to spur on these possible changes.
