THINGS FROM THIS WEEKEND;

For his birthday, the SO's parents gave him tickets to this one concert. We didn't pay too much attention to it, exactly, and we put it on the back burner of our brains. Then, about a week ago, the SO remembered that it was coming up, and we mostly went uuuuuurgh because it was the same day as Baltimore Comic Con, but it was a Wynton Marsalis thing, and they were really good seats, and it promised to be fun no matter what. Also, culture.

What it was?

FREAKING AMAZEBALLS

Hold up, I gotta explain this.

Basically, and I don't know the whole thing, Wynton Marsalis and Cecile Licad and some other folks got together and made this incredible movie about Louis Armstrong as a kid.

It is a silent movie.
With a live jazz band.

Watching it all come together was un-fucking-believable. The music was unreal. The movie was hilarious and the actors, all of them, really got into the whole shtick/pantomime aspect of it and pulled it off phenomenally. The kid who played Louis was so freaking adorable I WANTED TO SMUSH HIS FACE awww.

(it also made me miss performing, but that is a whole nother story)

One of the most ♥__♥ things? I was instantly in costume!porn heaven. It's set in New Orleans in 1907, so it was the best kind of assault of high button boots! corsets! waistcoats! muttonchops! bowlers! SO MANY RUFFLES! omg it was amazing. I legit wanted to like, dive into the screen and start stealing people's clothes right off.

Here is a trailer that will not embed :(

ANYWAY, I really really recommend going to see it if it comes around where you are. HERE is a list of the tour dates. I'm thinking I might try going again, if I can. Though admittedly, I am going to see how much the cheap seats are this time APPARENTLY IT'S VERY LIMITED ;; (here also is the blurb from his website)

I really really hope they put out some sort of DVD package for this, though it won't be quite the same experience. I JUST NEED TO HAVE IT AGAIN IN MY LIFE. However! There is going to be another one it looks like, called Bolden!, about the Coronet King of New Orleans, Buddy Bolden. So I'm going to make sure I get tickets to that one next year. Omg.

ETA: CHECK IT
