Adventures with cars!

This past weekend I'd made our first oil change appointment for the new-to-us vehicle we have. On our way out the door, I make sure to grab something to keep myself occupied & that DH has done the same, as I have yet to go in for an oil change that takes less than an hour--even at places like Jiffy Lube--and I'd made this appointment with the dealer from whom we purchased the car, as they were offering a fall oil-change special.

So we show up about 10 minutes early for the appointment & drop the car off in the maintenance waiting area. Turns out it's the Honda Odyssey Event, which is to say they're giving out tee shirts for test-driving the 2011 Odyssey (which we did not do; I admitted to myself that I don't need another stupid free tee shirt & left it alone). They were also giving out hot dogs & chips & hot cider (which is great, 'cuz it's definitely fall here now) and cookies & popcorn. And DH would simply NOT be convinced to get his face painted, even though I told him the two-days/no-shave stubble would make a face-paint spider look way cooler & more real (tarantulas are furry, right?) than normal.

So we settle into the waiting room--full of cookies, chips, hot dog, & cider--to wait for our car. The dude comes out of the mechanic's shop & tells us that there's a problem about 5 min later. Seems the screw which is to be taken out to drain the oil is stripped, thus making it impossible to change our car's oil. However, since we just bought the car from them, they'll replace our whole oil pan for free--catch being that it will take 2-3 hours to do. But they can give us a loaner car if we need to run errands or whatever in the meantime. DH has the remnants of a headcold & isn't inclined to do too much extra movement that day. I have nothing planned 'til 8 that night, so we just sat & waited it out. The appointment was at 11:30 a.m.; we were on our way back home around 4, I think. It wasn't a totally wasted day, though--I got a lot of stitching done & DH put his DS to good use.

Added bonus? We didn't even end up having to pay for the oil change when everything was said & done. In summary: I'd totally recommend that dealership to other people. They seem to treat their customers quite alright.
