He looked exactly the same. That was what everybody kept saying. That he looked exactly the same, from the shade of his eyes to the part of his hair to the scars and marks that would make his body identifiable in case of horrific injury. But where was identical in body, he could not have been more different in mind and soul. The Alexander Summers that they all knew was nothing but an artistic rendition now. He was a stranger, they said. Unhinged, dangerous.

And that was exactly why Ben had come. Because he could not reconcile that description with what he knew to be true of Alex, his friend, his idol, his brother.

He's gone, he reminded himself relentlessly as he stood outside the freezer door, Darwin's eyes weighing on his shoulders. If he went into this with false hope, even a little, it would be like losing him all over again. Ben didn't think he could do that, not when it still felt like he was wading stiff-limbed through a sea of sand ( ... )

Alex, with the instinct of a soldier who had dealt with similar situations before, pushed up off the ground with that injured arm and jumped to his feet. Turning, he threw a roundhouse kick at Ben's face without hesitation. He didn't like people trying to sneak up on him.

Taking a step back, finally recognizing who it was, Alex actually smirked. "Benjamin," he commented, "get the fuck up off the floor."

It was like being attacked by a cinder block. Or rather, it was what Ben imagine being attacked by a cinder block would feel like. The boy`s head snapped to the side and he stumbled against the wall, sliding down in a heap of tangled limbs to puddle on the floor in a hail of snapping sparks.

Short of breath, the boy pressed a hand to his throbbing cheek and gaped up at Not Alex with wide eyes. A warm flow of blood oozed from his nose. Blood, for pity`s sake!

"You kicked me," Ben spluttered incredulously."In the head. That really hurt you... you jerk!"

He looked at Ben for a moment as if confused, and then he started laughing. "Oh god, this is just...precious," Alex commented, stepping forward to bring a hand up to Ben's face to hold it almost gently. "Look at you," he whispered, leaning in to rest his forehead against Ben's. "You're actually afraid. You're kind of a pussy in this universe, aren't you? I like pussy," Alex told him with a smirk.

Someone had to bring him dinner, so while they were all bickering about who was going to do it, she snatched the plate and fork from behind them in the kitchen and headed through the servant's halls to the second kitchen and then to the freezer, opening the door and stepping inside. She closed it behind her, crouching down to set down the plate near where he was working out. "I brought food," she said simply, her voice bland ( ... )

He stopped mid push-up, almost as if he could sense that it was her, and turned to take a seat. Leaning his back against the wall, Alex stared at her in silence, a slow smirk crossing his lips. He glanced at the food, then back at her, but said nothing. Sometimes silence fucked with the mind more than words, and he wanted to dare her to be the first one to ask something of him.

Alex did his best to not cater to his injured arm, which stung now from the push-ups. It was best to pretend he wasn't in pain. Even if she was the one person in his world who would know he was.

Her finger tapped idly against her leg, her breathing slow and steady. But she kept biting at her lip, not liking the silence. She knew he was only doing it to unnerve her, the way he smirked at her was evidence enough of that. And it was working, unfortunately.

It wasn't that she tried to notice that he was in pain, but it was just the way he held his shoulder, calmly but still in a position that would put less strain on his arm. She knew how that injury felt, had been in that position before. But she didn't say anything. She could pretend just as easily as he could.

It was unnerving how well she seemed to know him even in this world. Alex couldn't keep quiet for too much longer once he realized she was playing the game with his own rules.

"Tell me," he commented quietly, calmly, "what are you to him in this world?" He snickered quietly before adding, "Or should I tell you what you are to me in my world? Fucktoy, side hobby, slave. You bend to my will, do what I tell you to. You are mine." It wasn't exactly the truth. He and his Amara were so much more than that back in his world, but he would never dare to explain their dynamic in words. Saying it aloud made the things he occasionally felt real.

Tabby hadn't met Alex yet..either one, and curiosity had gotten the best of her. A lot of the others had mixed emotions about the situation, and were avoiding the freezer. Day by day, she would sit and watch as different mutants took turns in guarding the freezer and taking in meals. She wondered why he needed so much guarding. Surely he wasn't that dangerous. So she set a plan into action with mischievous grin.

She had waited until night before causing a distraction down the hall from the freezer. She couldn't tell who the guard was as he took a look where a flash of light had gone off, nor did she care. She quickly slipped, unseen into the freezer and looked around curiously. She stayed pressed against the door as she peered into the dimly lit room.

He stilled in his movements, finally getting up and turning to look at her. "Tabitha," he commented quietly, smiling a bit. He didn't know her too well in his universe, but her power was similar to his in that it was destructive. That earned her some respect.

She heard her name and searched for where it came from. Her eyes settled on him and she bit her lip as she moved closer. She watched him carefully as she approached, deciding to sit a meter away from him. Cocking her head to the side as she looked him over.

"The wrong Alex, huh? To be honest, I never met the right one...so I think I'll stick with just Alex. Unless you prefer wrong Alex or Evil Alex." Her voice was light and she chuckled softly to herself.

He looked her up and down without hesitation, smirking now. "You can call me whatever you want," Alex replied. "It's cliche, but seriously, whatever you want to call me you just go right ahead, because with a body like yours...you can get away with a lot."

It was never going to last. Her being able to avoid the doppleganger of her ex. Finally, she got up the nerve. Standing in the doorway of the freezer, she crossed her arms over her chest. "Happy belated Birthday," she said softly. "Do you even have the same birthdays? How it works is fuzzy to me."

She set some books on the floor and pushed it to him. "Some books to read."

Alex turned to take a seat on the floor when he heard her walk in. "August 4th," he replied, looking at her with a smirk. Yeah, he'd been thrown across universes on his 19th birthday. Happy fucking birthday to him.

"Am I a bookworm in this universe or something?" he asked, scoffing.

She sat down near him but far enough away to be safe. "I know when his birthday is." She pulled her legs to her chest. "I've celebrated it with him many times." Tucking her hair behind her ear, she nodded.

"He'd never admit it but he kind of is. It's mostly just history stuff. Figured you'd be interested in the differences between yours and ours." She shrugged. "It's not like you've got anything better to do."

She was right about him having nothing to do, but reading? And yet in the back of his mind he could practically hear Erik telling him that researching his surroundings was a good idea. So he would look into it later when no one was around to see it.

"So what's the deal here anyway? Your father is Charles' bitch, so you just kind of sit in the background?" he asked.
