My goodness, I can't seem to shut up this week. Dee icon in honor of all the programmer-y stuff I should be doing, and am not.
I just watched the trailer for The Dark is Rising. Unlike
quirkybird, I did make it all the way through. I wish I hadn't. I mean, I *knew* from reading around that they were going to ruin the book completely and in every way (Will is American? And doesn't get along with his family? And WHO IN THE HELL IS THAT MAN SUPPOSED TO BE because he's sure not Gumerry.) I will confess to a little thrill at hearing Eccleston again (I miss those Northern tones :) ), but absolutely nothing is going to get me to watch this thing. I dearly hope Susan Cooper at least got a ton of cash for the rights, because this is not my gorgeous book :(
Let's see, what else...I am officially the last person in the nerdosphere to discover Firefly. I now utterly understand and support the movement to deify Joss Whedon because oh this is so, so, so good. It's a western! And SF! And it's set in space! And it's steampunk! And it's full of pretty people! And quirky humor and strong female characters and should I just sign my heart over to Whedon now, or pretend to hold out a little longer? (Also, apparently I have a Thing for blue-eyed pilots, because Wash==so much love. And yes, I think I accidentally read a spoiler about his fate in Serenity and shhh. This is SF, which means 1)anything and anyone can be retconned forever AND 2)Nobody Dies. Nobody Ever Really Dies. I've been an X-Men fan since I was wee; death is just a temporary plot twist as far as I'm concerned.)
Yes, so now I am just mucking around, waiting to leave for a weekend-long Fet*. It should be a lot of fun; lave tet tomorrow, and then another service on Sunday. Things promise to be really, really wonderful. And really, really exhausting; I've taken Monday off as I should have done for all the lave tet's last year. I'm just way too worn out to accomplish anything, generally. But this is also the first fet after six weeks of not really doing anything as a group, so it'll be really good to see everyone :)
