Well, for example, where I go to school voting for/supporting Obama is basically a one-way route to getting patted on the back and at least getting a small smile from the majority of your classmates. Supporting anyone else results in rioting. From what I can tell, that's true of a lot of schools, and I'd go so far as to say it's probably the majority. It's very "in" to like Obama, and that extends far beyond the 18 year-old realm, but into the media, the entertainment industry, etc. Now, does that mean he might not be an amazing President? No. But I am very, very worried about sending someone in who is relatively unvetted, has a chorus of adoring admirers, has never faced real mudslinging (the idea that Hillary's minor "slumlord" line is more harsh than "anything the GOP could throw at him" -his words, I believe-, is laughable), and holds rock-star-like "concerts" where he literally acts like a famous preacher speaking to his audience. The preacher-thing worries me. A lot. And some of his biggest converts don't help when they say that hearing him speak is "like a religious experience". Uhm, I want a PRESIDENT. Not a preacher. Otherwise I'd be phoning Fuckabee right now.
Also, while it's a bit unpopular to say, the recent accusations that Obama's fans are kind of....er, like a cult, is a bit accurate, in my view. Obviously there are some perfectly sane Obama fans and the rest do those guys a discredit, but A LOT of them act very bizzarely about their candidate. I mean, I'm passionate about politics and I definitely show it, but some of these people kind of get to the point where their eyes seem almost glazed-over when they speak about "change and unity", all the while screaming "yes we caaaaaaan!" (Oh my god, can we get rid of that motto, NOW?) Obviously it'd be unfair to judge Obama's Presidential qualities based on some nut jobs, but...I kinda have to wonder? I don't know, for me, Hillary is the President that will give me health care, and hopefully a bunch of other things. Obama is at best Bill Clinton, with some good ideas that will probably not be implemented. So....that's my novel about THAT. =P
