It looks like you had a lovely time! I am sorry you are a bit bummed but you are such a wonderful hostess, I am sure everyone had a great time and no one noticed you got a bit overwhelmed.
I'm so glad y'all had such a great time. We were bummed we couldn't make it. I can't wait to see the finished garage bathroom. I know it looks awesome.
Maybe - we're pretty rough, so knowing how to fight safely is paramount. Also, it's not up to me - invitations are kind of decided on by group discussion. The best way is to come to toher things we do, like SCA events, get in your better Elizabethan gear, and get to know people. We do in persona events, which means being "on" all day.
We chat about whatever's happening in front of us, usually - for some events, I'll post a "this is what's happening right now" background thing beforehand, and I also used to comb the Weekly World News for silly things to discuss as "local" events, such as "Pope gets hit by a space meteor" became "Southwark Bishop gets hit by rock from God". We also have a running joke about a giant lobster that inhabits the docks, and we discuss modern things like movies in a period manner - King Kong became a great ape that went wild in the bear baiting gardens, and such.
It's hard to explain, but it works. People back then didn't discuss current events all the time, they gossiped about their neighbours, asked after relatives, and made bawdy conversation with their friends. We try to follow that model. :)
Uh... Uh... I actually don't recal the name (I'll have to look and see next time I'm down there), but it was Sherwin Williams, and is in the warmer spectrum, like forget-me-not, or bluebell, or something.

But at least I don't have "The Party's Over" Blues today. I'm sorry you've got them. They suck mightily.
Next year? Spring? Please don't think because we couldn't make it this time that we wouldn't try harder next time. =)
