Think like a Butterfly, Bumble like a Bee

Today you get random brain meats, as I have had insomnia for the past two weeks, and I am out of spare thinking-type abilities.

First - We will be at the farm this weekend, trying to get the last of the drywall done in the garage, and starting mudding and taping.  If anyone wants to come by, we'll be there, and we'll have a party in your honour.

Yesterday, for the first time in my life, I rear-ended someone.  Fortunately, I managed to do it at 5mph, so there was no damage done to either car - the other guy didn't even ask for my number.  Yay for tough little fibreglass bumpers.

The reason I managed to rear-end someone (I'm a really good driver, yes a really good driver - well, normally) was that yesterday was a *bad* pain day, but I still had errands to run.  I think I was just a little more out of it than usual.  Fortunately, again, no harm was done, not even to my hands, since the "bounce" of the hit made me let go of the wheel, not grip it tighter.

Stupid errands.

Well, not completely stupid - I managed to get some really beautiful red wool (the last of the bolt, too) at Jo-Anne's, which I'll be using as the lining to the really gorgeous figured silk velvet (red and gold - yum!) that Bob got me for Christmas last year.  It's going to become a petticoat to go with the embroidered jacket.  At some point, I'll photograph that and the green Dupioni I'm using for the jacket lining so y'all can writhe in envy.

(This seems only fair to me, since I frequently writhe in envy at the stuff y'all score.  It's an envy fest!)

On a completely unrelated note, I wear fake nails (I think I've mentioned that before).  I usually go with some form of French manicure, like this:

(My cute as a button cuffed mittens are in the background.)

I wear fake nails because it's a million times easier than doing my own manicure, and more importantly, it means that I don't break them all the time.  I'm not only clumsy, I'm rough on my hands, and I've found that my own nails, even at their healthiest, cannot stand up to using them as a screwdriver, slamming them into walls, and generally managing to do idiotic things with somewhat smash-tastic results.  So, I buy nails from Target or CVS, and install them myself.  It's cheaper than getting acrylics, and they're usually thinner, so I can use them for more detailed stuff.  And they look good - I've fooled manicurists.

However, I veered from my usual brand (Broadway) into a brand called Nailene, lured by the promise of flexible nails to fit every nail bed (some of mine are flat, some curved).

Never buy this brand.  In the four days since I've put them on, I've broken two.  This never happens with my usual brand - they're as tough as, well, nails.  But this stupid brand snaps worse than my own nails - I snapped one in half putting on my tights two days ago, and snapped another yesterday putting groceries in the car (see:  errands).  They snap clean off just above the glued nail bed (I suppose the only plus over my own nails breaking is that they don't break below the quick and bleed).

I had extras, so I was able to fix them, but I'm replacing them as soon as I can get them off easily.  Ugh.  Other drawbacks to this brand was that they didn't have sizing numbers, and the tips were really rough, requiring considerable filing before they were snag free.  One of them was actually cut at an angle - just bad.

I like having pretty nails, but I expect them to be less work than the real ones, y'know?  I don't do acrylics, not only because of the cost, but because they look bad growing out - I'd rather simply replace my nails every week and a half or so - and I have a great fear of nail fungus.  I know it's unlikely I'd get a fungus at a salon, but it's even less likely that I'll get fungy doing my own nails.

I have a thing about nails.  I can't stand horror movies where nails fall off (The Fly, District 9), and the look of nail fungus is really horrific - I remember being in a Marshall's where the man at the register had the worst case I'd ever seen, and he was touching my stuff!  Augh!

(I went back there about three months later, and he was still working there, but his nails were healing.  Obviously, someone complained, and he was made to go fix it, because the previous state of his nails looked like he had had the condition for years.)

I also hate movies where people do things to the palms of their hands - it makes me cringe.  Feet, too.  The most painful thing I've ever experienced was getting injected in my foot, in hospital, because they couldn't find a vein anywhere else.  Man, that hurt.  They told me not to move my foot, and I didn't, but my other leg curled up as far as it could in reaction.

Ow.  Even more painful than the potassium drip I had once.

Okay, I think I've been random enough - let's end on pain.  Or drywall.  Yay, drywall.  The sooner we get the garage done, the sooner I can move my studio down there, and turn the apartment studio room into my sewing room, so Bob can have the computer room as an office, and not be buried under fabric.

This would be good, especially since I just bought more.

Mmmmmmm, fabric.

random, state of the me, blah blah blah
