Awhile back, I posted about my experience of purchasing a floor model Blu-Ray home theater system from H.H. Gregg, and having chosen, since it was a floor model, to go ahead and get the service protection plan thingie.
Lo and behold, in December, the Blu-Ray player developed a problem with a fan motor or a bearing or something, such that it started making truly alarming noises whenever we turned it on (regardless of whether it was playing a disc).
We examined the paperwork on the service plan. It instructed us to call the store. The store said, "bring it on in." We took the player to them, and they boxed it up and sent it away. About two weeks later, they got it back, all fixed and happy. We picked it up and brought it home. No problems since.
I'm always highly skeptical that a service plan will actually work like that, despite all the grand promises of the sales pitch. I was delighted that this one did.
