I went to church with my family yesterday.  Not because I wanted to or because I believe in the system, but because it would appease my parents.  They know it too.  I walked in and sat down where my family generally sits, but today a group of elderly people, about 80-90 years old, were sitting in front of us.  As everyone filtered into the church and the Mass began, I realized how many people clung to this faith of theirs.  The majority of the people in this "Holy Place" prayed their hearts out to a being that apparently sat in the rafters of heaven looking down upon them and giving them hope of a better life after they die.   That is all it is however, a hope that after one dies, there is something waiting for them at the end of the road of life.  Something other than the eternal darkness of your grave and the decomposition of the body as it becomes just a name and a pile of bones that you are remembered by.  Sure, you will be remembered by your kids and there kids after.  Perhaps even your great grandchildren will remember your name, but unless you do something drastic or truly memorable, you will be forgotten. That is the inevitability of it all.  No matter how much you pray, there is only that in the end.  Does one really need to pray to a God to have a good life?  He is not going to bring you riches or give you the perfect family.  It is all based on moral value.  So why cling to him like a child grasps the leg of a parent when they are scared?  Instead one should realize that the only thing they can do is figure life out for themselves instead of hoping that some God is going to give them the answer.  Live it how you want to live it, not how some "Holy Figure" deems prudent.  All we have is the few years allotted to us and the life we live now; nothing more, nothing less.  So live it to the fullest.
