Yeah, I know. Another quiet few days from me. But I've been busy with RL because I was finishing up at my old job last Friday. Now I am enjoying 2 blissful weeks of doing not very much and finally have time to catch up with y'all. And I've missed loads! Talk Like a Pirate Day (Aaar), Hermione's birthday, Mal's birthday, the
mums_for_mal anniversary.... very inconvenient timing, I call that. I have tried to catch up with everything but I've probably missed stuff. Link me or drop me a comment if there's anything you think I should know, won't you?
So, what have I been up to, aside from busting my arse to get everything finished at work on time?
- I've been to two very interesting concerts. A new completion of the Mass in C Minor at the Proms and Giergiev conducting Shostakovich 5 with the Vienna Phil at the Barbican. Did you listen to the Mozart,
scieppan? I loved most of the choruses (and was particularly taken with the new Crucifixus and Et Resurrexit) but had some serious issues with most of the soloists, particularly the 2 sops. Shame really, as that spoiled it for me a bit. Giergiev was unparalled. He conducts like a crazy person stirring a cake but I don't care because I haven't heard a string sound that good coming out of an orchestra in a good long time.
- I finally plucked up the courage and got my navel pierced a few days ago. The faffing about beforehand was far worse than the actual act, I discovered. In fact it didn't really hurt at all and I did a full Pilates class three hours later with no ill effects. So now I have a shiny blue tourmaline sitting in my navel and I feel all sexy. Which has to be good, right?
- It was Open House weekend here last week, which is where loads of private buildings in London open their doors to the public for free. I spent all of Saturday visiting various places with friends, and had a really interesting time. It's amazing what I've walked past every day and never imagined could be there. Certain parts of the Foreign Office have to be seen to be believed, for example. I think the sight of the day was a double staircase made entirely out of green onyx though. That really was something.
What else? The cats are well, although they are currently going through a phase of catching moths and bringing them into the house. I can also report that a kitty paw trampling directly on a new piercing is quite painful. I'm planning to go dancing with some friends tonight to celebrate being 36 years young, and generally all is well with the world.
Hugs to y'all. I wish you happiness, my dear friends.
