“Can I has this?” A cheeky, two-year-old Yunhwa asked, running up to his father with something frilly and pink in his tiny hands. Yunho blinked at the layers upon layers of tulle in the horribly exaggerated and sparkly tutu, wondering why on earth his son would want something like that.
“Baby,” Yunho started, kneeling to his son’s level. “This is a tutu, it’s for girls. You don’t want this.”
Pouting, the young toddler averted his gaze to the plain tile of the floor. “B-but...”
“Yunho.”
Turning around, Yunho saw his other son standing with the man that had blessed him with both little boys. However, the look on Jaejoong’s face was a bit difficult to read and he had a feeling he wouldn’t like what he had to say.
“We promised the boys each one item if they behaved,” Jaejoong said. “If he wants it, we’ll buy it for him.”
“Really?” Yunhwa smiled that too brilliant smile that he inherited from his father.
“But, Jae, it’s a girl toy.” Yunho knew he was losing an uphill battle. He always had a hard time denying his lover of anything, and he could already feel himself cracking.
“So?” Jaejoong shrugged as he picked up Jaeyoung, putting him into the front of the grocery cart. He had already chosen his own reward and was trying to figure out how to remove the car from its plastic. Jaejoong took a moment to admonish him before continuing, “I don’t really want to force stereotypical gender expectations onto them. If Yunhwa wants a tutu, I’m okay with that. It doesn’t make him any less of a boy.”
Yunho took a moment to think about it, nodding his head before he turned to his son. “Okay, if this is what baby Yun wants, then this is what he’ll get. Do you want Appa to put it in the cart to keep it safe?”
“Hm...okay,” Yunhwa said, thrusting the frilly object into his father’s hands. “Thank you Appa, thank you Daddy!”
