Been a while since I gave anyone an update on my recovery...
+My stitches came out 8/27!
+/-Got a cast at the same time, the first one I've had in my life. On the plus side, it's lighter weight than the splint: fiberglass, not plaster. On the negative side....
-There's no give to it, so every time the swelling goes up, it gets too tight, and I wind up in bed with my foot elevated. The swelling is making the discomfort worse than the pain. By which I mean the simple simultaneous expressions of:
diameter(ankle/foot) *feels like it's greater than* diameter(cast)
and diameter(ankle/foot) *must be less than* diameter(cast)
I was feeling better, was capable of getting around & doing more, before I got the cast. Now, I swear I spend 90% of my time trying to elevate my foot & get the swelling down so I'm not so uncomfortable. *whine* I despise getting a setback like this!!
-The first cast chafed against my toes on both sides, so I had to get it replaced. The second one felt like it was rubbing against the tops of my toes, so I went back in again to get the 'lid' taken off my toes.
+I can see my toes now, and they don't hurt continuously!
+My sweetheart hmark42: As always, he's here for me. He's been running a bit ragged trying to get everything done, but I'm so glad to have him here to _do_ things for me. To comfort me when I'm in pain. To help me when the light at the tunnel goes dim. To...well, you get the picture.
+/-Sleeping: It's nice to sleep for more than an hour at a time. I think I'm getting better at it (finally!).
+/-Sunlight: I haven't been getting outside much, and the weather's been so nice! (Saturday not included.) But there have been a number of days where I was able to go out in the yard & sit in the sunlight & watch birds flitting past
+Getting out to the
Eastern Mass. Hawk Watch annual meeting Friday night in W. Medford. There were live owls!
-...but that was biting off more than I could chew, and rather enforced me to stay in bed all day Sat. with my leg up. And not going out to do other fun things. *pout*
-To add insult to injury, I think I caught a cold from one of the teenagers here. My throat hurts.
+...but that may make me more patient re staying here in bed & not trying to do more than I ought.
+/-Said teenagers have started school now. That means my days are quieter, but also that I'm alone/lonely during the day.
+Games day here 8/30 was a complete win. We had 10 folks over (you know who you were), which greatly helped my need for social contact. :-) I was able to keep my foot elevated most of the time, and nobody laughed at me for my curious contortions. There was a wide variety of yummy foodstuffs! And folks washed dishes, passed me the things I asked for, and left the place looking pretty good. Trust me, we will be doing that again! (If you want to be on our gaming invite list and aren't already, let me know!)
Guess that's all for now.
