I didn't realize I'd missed your birthday (it doesn't show up in the lj list, so I don't know it). Anyway- belated happy birthday!

Are your family local, and if not, how long are they staying? I'm still planning to come by and visit, but it depends what day I can clear bailing out of work for a bit, which I'm not sure on yet.

I intentionally don't advertise my birthday, so not problem.

The family is clumped either 1/2 hour or just over an hour away; no big distance. So they drop in, they leave again & go home the same night. My father stayed with me yesterday while Mark had a 5+ hour errand. Nice to hang out with him, really.

AFA you coming by, most anytime is good provided you call first. We're planning to go out to dinner tonite to celebrate our birthdays, but I expect I'll be home otherwise.

Eek. How did I miss you having had this happen? I must have been skimming LJ. Sorry.

Okay, speaking as a veteran of the ankle recovery wars-

1) Elevate. It's boring as hell but it does help.

2) Those little scooters at stores and malls they loan out are totally worth it. Beware, you are invisible. But you're also invisible on crutches to a lot of people and you're more tippy.

3) When I was recovering grillghod got a small cooler that was just the right height to sit by the sofa and be used as a secodnary endtable. He'd stock it for me at night with the next day's drinks and snacks and a lunch because, as you know Bob, making and carrying food around while on crutches is not on. It let me stay off my leg, it let me stay hydrated and it let me change position more often by giving me yet another thing to put my foot up on ( ... )

Thank you!

This looks like wonderfully useful stuff, and I really appreciate it. #4 &6 I already had in mind, but continual reminders re #1: Elevate will be welcome. I jsut started the 'above the heart' routine & it's already getting old. *sigh*

Yes, mother, I will behave.

Also, the crutch bags look like a fabulous idea!

rivka sent me one of the bags when I spiral fractured my ankle. Oh my dog it made life so much easier to be able to have house keys and ID and pain meds without trying to wrangle a purse or belt pack.

Another kind friend mailed me a stack of paperbacks by a favorite author.

The ice chest of supplies by the couch? Probably seriously cut down my healing time by keeping me from having to get up and down every time I needed to eat something so I could take meds. (Teddy Grahams. Because you can bite their little heads off, which is very satistfying. Okay, maybe that's just me.)

So, M left me with a cooler filled with lunch & snacks & juice today :-D

Also, my latest post refs you "How to Complain" post, which I failed to tell you at the time how well-worded it was. Getting other people to jump through her hoops is something my mother has always been good at, though using a bit more social grease (aka politeness) works even better.
