I went to a movie yesterday and when my boyfriend went out to get popcorn I started listening to a conversation the 4 people in front of me were having.
Apparently one of the girls had made up her own joke. I'll try and remember it as best as I can. It went something like "why did the woman fail her highscool exam? Because she got an F in sex!"
So her friends just sat there going huh...
And I was thinking 'what the hell? I don't get it...'
So she had to explain it to them by saying, she's a female, so she had to put an F in the category of sex.
Her friends then giggled a little bit; a weird nervous giggle.
And then there was silence.
Finally one of her friends goes, "you know, there's got to be a better way to explain that joke"
And she said "well, the joke is in the punchline. It's a thinker. You have to think about it."
He replied, "yeah...I suppose..."
Followed by at least one minute of awkward silence.
Then she piped in and said, "but it's really funny if you think about it."
The four of them didn't talk again for several minutes
I was most amused watching the whole situation play out. It was obvious that her friends didn't think it was a quality joke but didn't have the heart to tell her.
I really enjoyed her rationale of 'the joke is in the punchline'! HA!!! What joke isn't in the punchline...
Yeah, it was painful.
