Fright Nights and the Rock & Roll Lifestyle

Oct 10, 2005 12:23

So, this weekend I took a break from preparing for my Comp Exam and went to Fright Nights with Gabriela and a bunch of her friends. I got to meet her friend from DC, too - he was a pretty cool guy. I finally got around to doing the Skycoaster. Perhaps most awesomely of all, I decided not to bother with the Pitt Fall. Awesome you say? Yup! Because as I was standing around, the DJ who had been playing back there and had just called it a night walked over and gave me 'Get Out of Line Free' cards - enough for all 9 of us. It was supposed to be good for one use, and the attraction attendant was supposed to take it. I tried to insist that they keep it each time, and no one would! Sooooo... for the rest of the night, there were no lines for me! YARRRRR!!!!! I got to anger lots of people who didn't feel nice enough to talk to the DJ by jumping to the front of 45 minute lines. Yup - rock & roll lifestyle continues!  I wanted to hand off one of the two cards to a family before we left so they could get in 1-2 more things, but all I saw were high school kids I didn't feel like being nice to.  Yes, even my good turns are tainted by bastardlyness.

Sadly, I can't find a 1-piece motorcycle oversuit anywhere for less than ~$1000 (this is related by the fact I rode my motorcycle to Kennywood Saturday, and had wet shins the rest of the night). I can buy 2-piece ones for ~$300 total for some decent quality ones. I've even tried to just find a Gore-tex oversuit for hikers/hunters/etc., but the only ones I can find are camo snowsuits for hunters :*( Anyone know where to find something like this?

Here's the req.s I'm trying to fill...
  • $400 or less, ideally
  • 'waterproof' and 'breatheable' (yes, I know there's no such absolute thing, but things like Gore-Tex are a good balance)
  • 1-piece - so I can wear it over nicer clothes en route to campus and teaching but readily 'transform in a phonebooth'
  • fairly form-fitting (don't want my whole body flapping in the wind above 35 mph)
  • ideally, something with forearm zippers (so you can zip your gloves/gauntlets under the cuff)
  • I'd prefer something uninsulated - I'd rather layer underneath
  • I don't like those really loud-looking ones - you know, the kind the racer wears in the movies with logos and 7 different bright colors - I prefer the gray or 2-color ones with the hidden reflector panels

Any suggestions are appreciated!
