Hello everyone and welcome to the A-Z Mix Tape!
Do you remember those days when CDs were a far off idea? When tapes and tape players were the cutting edge technology? When the art of creating the perfect mix-tape was a time honoured and exacting tradition and you could sit for hours just to make the perfect combination of your favourite songs?
Although this is mostly a thing of the past - where mix tapes were replaced with the mix cd and now the itunes playlists - we all know the joys of rediscovering those tapes from our past, and listening fondly to the tunes of back then. And we all still know how much joy can come from creating the ideal mixtape for ourselves or someone close to us.
Well now, we hope to recreate the glory of those days by making our very own, user decided mix tape (with a bit of an online twist) that everyone can download once it is completed.
Borrowed from a successful idea on Radio 1, we are going to let you decide the best mix on the planet from A-Z.
Every week, you will be able to nominate a band or artist beginning with the letter that we are on that week.
For example, our first week will be taken up by the letter 'A'. You can nominate any band or artist that you would like to go onto the mix, beginning with the letter A
e.g. Aerosmith, Arctic Monkeys, Athlete, Atomic Kitten, Ash, Andy Williams...
Our esteemed panel, which scans all major continents, will decide from the nominations which bands and artists shall go through to the vote. Finally, at the close of the week, a poll will go up where you can vote on which song you want to go onto the mix.
e.g. Say the Arctic Monkeys, Aretha Franklin, Avril Lavigne, Alice Cooper and the Aaliyah were chosen. You would then vote between, for example:
Aaliyah - More Than A Woman
Alice Cooper - Poison
The Arctic Monkeys - I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor
Aretha Franklin - Respect
Avril Lavigne - Complicated
And whichever won would go on the tape!
(Of course, we will have a much better and more diverse mix (hopefully) by the time that the vote actually comes round - these are just what I pulled from the top of my head.)
Every week/fortnight we'll move onto a new letter, and a new vote. After the 13th letter - 'M' - you will be able to download 'Side A' of the tape. 'Side B', N-Z, will be available after the next 13 songs have been decided.
Now finally, to be able to take part in the ultimate LJ AtoZ mixtape and to decide exactly which songs you want, you need to join the community and hopefully you will enjoy this process as much as us.
Our first update, and the first nomination process, will begin in the next few days when we have a good enough number of members to get a good mix. So don't lose faith - we will get your brains working soon :D
