Believe it or not, people didn't always give and receive gifts for Christmas. They may, however, have gotten a few small ones for the new year. So, I present to you my not-late-for-Christmas gifts!
No Rest for the Wicked: Fun webcomic full of interesting characters. The story is perhaps not entirely original in its idea of mashing fairy tales together, but it is engaging. Bonus! It's fairly young, so there's not a lot you have to read to catch up on.
Questionable Content: Recced to me by James. He told me I reminded him of one of the characters. Read it, and it's pretty blindingly obvious that Faye is me with a cooler haircut.
Nation States: Now you can fulfill all your fantasies of becoming an evil dictator in charge of millions of people!
Kittens: Because I simply can't pimp this out enough.
Advice Bunny: A magic eight ball in the form of a sarcastic bunny. What could be more useful in making your major life decisions?
Otaku Barbie: Amusing and sadly true.
Threadless: Fun shirts. It's kind of awesome, because there are no visible labels, yet you know who bought their shirts from there, and when you meet someone who goes "OMG! You got that on threadless!" you kinda feel like you're a member of a secret club or something. A secret club with wicked-awesome t shirts.
Someone keeps stealing my letters!: It's so fun to mess with people.
The Drunk ABCs: Highly, highly amusing.
Eyezmaze: Addictive little flash puzzles of shiny frustration and joy.
Post Secret: In case you're late to the bandwagon, like me.
From "a psycopathic god":
He had grand ambitions. He wanted to save the entire world, free the people from the endless war they had entangled themselves in. He sacrificed everything for his goal: his ties, his daughter, his very life. He envisioned a world of peace, of prosperity. He found the power. But he found it hard to let go.
--
He gave up everything to save this world. His daughter, his very life were left behind in his pursuit of salvation for Spira. I wonder if he sees their ghosts still. I know I still see mine.
--
I. I gave you everything. I gave you my faith, my loyalty, my love; and this is how you reward me? By throwing the used husk back at me?
II. And now we know that our gods are only men who fall prey to their own ambitions, robbing us mortals of our lives and dreams in their fall.

From
crazylittleme's going-to-be-late Christmas fic:
“Speakin’ a friends, where’s that fatass with the gunarm?” Cid is loud on purpose, or maybe it’s just the alcohol starting to have an effect; either way, Barret yells from the back room. “I heard that, old man!” Cid sputters indignantly and staggers across the room to the back, trading good-natured obscenities with the other man the entire way. Tifa hides a giggle behind her hand and sits down in Cid’s seat.
FF12 musings:
There are many reasons why he's glad to have Fran as a partner. She's good with just about any weapon she picks up, she knows when to talk and when to use her cleavage to get her goal, she shares his taste for refinement, and it's always nice to have someone around with whom he can have an actual conversation; but really, she makes it easier for him to charm pretty young things into his bed. They believe that if a viera would deign to partner with a hume, she must be getting something more than just gil from the deal. She's not, of course (although he wouldn't try to dissuade her if she wanted to), but people like to assume. Pair that assumption with his charm and looks (it's not vanity to state the truth, after all), add a mention of an airship and, well...He's very thankfull indeed for Fran.
--
Vaan is a nice guy, but sometimes, he acts like he has the brain of a cactite and one of these days she's going to lose her patience and just drag him into a dark closet to show him that she's not a little girl anymore.
--
Fran and Balthier have each other and their airship, Basch has his honor and the love of a nation; it never bothered her before. Before, she'd thought she'd have Vaan--but he found a princess and she knows that pigtails and teenage cuteness are poor substitutes for grace and royal poise.

Poor Penelo. I'm going to be giving her the short end of the stick so much, and I really like her. Also, the Reks/Basch/Vaan thing makes my inner slasher squeal with fangirlish delight.
I think this may be my longest post ever. Happy New Year, everybody! May your hangovers tomorrow be light!
