Hey local people!
I just talked with the owner of the Kitchen Port (she's doing a knife sharpening fundraiser for the Humane Society) and she told me that they're not doing so hot business-wise and if they don't do well this Xmas season, that they're gonna have to close.
So now's your chance! It's a great little shop and it's been around forever. If you haven't been there lately, they have moved to Zeeb Rd just off Jackson, and they have really great kitchen stuff. Great basics - pots, pans, knives, fun gadgets and decorative things, too.
Anyway, I'd hate to see them go, so if you need any kitchen stuff for now or for holiday presents, check them out. I'll admit, they're not the cheapest in the world, but the beat the crap out of Williams Sonoma and if they close, it's just one more good independent business gone to the homogenization of America.
*steps off soapbox*
ETA: Oh yeah, the knife sharpening thing. On Sunday, October 15th, from 1-3pm, take your knives to the Kitchen Port to get sharpened. Limit 3 knives. Make a donation to the Humane Society (amount of your choice). Scio Town Center, 203 S. Zeeb Rd., (734) 665-9188.
