Jongdae's Baozi is missing and he searches the whole house for it.

Jongdae can’t believe this. He woke up without Minseok this morning and it’s already noon but he’s still searching all around the house. Minseok is a Baozi-99, the newest model of mini-droids shaped like meat buns so that they fit into your pockets for easy transportation. They can be your companion, friend and even do your work for you. Even in a house with nine other men, Jongdae gets lonely sometimes and he saved up to buy a droid, finally settling on the Baozi-99 model; they look so real and good you can almost eat them.

Even though Minseok is small and fits into the palm of his hand, it is designed to help around the house and every morning Minseok has been making coffee for Jongdae with his cute little hands but not today. Because today, his Baozi is missing and nowhere to be seen. After one last look under his bed, in case he kicked Minseok in his sleep, Jongdae sets out to ask the rest of his housemates.

He goes to find Chanyeol and Kyungsoo in their bedroom first because Jongdae remembers bringing Minseok there before they retired to bed the night before. Their door is closed but Jongdae doesn’t think anything of it, opening their door without knocking and his eyes widen at the sight in front of him as he stands frozen, wishing he had knocked because he definitely didn’t have to see Kyungsoo slamming into Chanyeol in the middle of the day.

“Umm, looks like you’re both busy I’ll be back later!” Jongdae says, trying his best to keep his voice even but failing when it increases in pitch towards the end before he slams the door loudly behind him.

Just as Jongdae walks away from their door, feeling a little stunned, he sees Joonmyun walking towards him and he immediately grabs the elder’s arm.

“Hyung! Have you seen my Baozi today?”

‘Umm…what’s a Baozi?”

“My Baozi, Minseok,” Jongdae repeats, getting impatient with Joonmyun but he might be helpful so Jongdae must keep calm.

“Oh! Your robot I-“

“NOT MY ROBOT!” Jongdae screams in his face before he takes in the shock in Joonmyun’s face and he takes a deep breathe, “He’s not a robot hyung. He’s my friend and now he’s missing, I’m afraid something must have happened.”

“O-Of course, I’m sorry, it was my mistake. I thought I saw him but maybe that wasn’t today I’m not sure I haven’t seen much of him you know, since he’s so sma-so smart, I mean so smart in not getting in the way,” Joonmyun says when he sees Jongdae’s nostrils start to flare up.

“Well you’re right about that. I didn’t mean to shout at you I’m just so worried that’s all, he’s never been away from me this long you know.”

“Yes of course, of course. I totally understand,” Joonmyun says, patting Jongdae’s shoulder gingerly before walking away.

No, Jongdae thinks, you don’t understand.

The door behind him creaks open and Chanyeol walks out, closing the door behind him right after. They must have heard him shouting at Joonmyun and he is a little embarrassed about losing his cool especially since Joonmyun can’t possibly be guilty-he’s never guilty of anything.

“Hey man, sorry for interrupting you earlier. Umm, I wasn’t thinking,” Jongdae mutters, scratching the back of his neck as he tries to look anywhere but at the blooming bruises decorating Chanyeol’s neck.

“Don’t worry about it, if anything it just made Kyungsoo more aroused, he really loves it when he get caught in the act and to have someone wat-“

“Ok! Enough, I really don’t need to know what Kyungsoo likes. I need to find Minseok, have you seen him? He’s been missing for half a day now,” Jongdae frowns.

“No, I have not. I can ask Kyungsoo if you want, he was up early this morning making us breakfast in bed.”

“Ok, would you do that?”

“Yeah, just wait here.”

Jongdae watches Chanyeol going back inside his room and he leans against the wall, drumming his fingers on his thigh as he waits. Waiting is not one of his qualities but he’ll do anything if it means he’ll get Minseok back; he misses his Baozi already.

It takes Chanyeol only a few minutes before he comes back out.

“Kyungsoo said he saw Minseok when he was going to the kitchen at about eight in the morning but Minseok never came into the kitchen when he was there. Come on, I’ll help you look,” Chanyeol offers, tugging Jongdae’s arm.

“Really?” Jongdae asks. He knows that his housemates didn’t really like it when he brought Minseok home. Some of them like Tao don’t believe in having a droid-companion because “it destroys human relationships!!!” he would say while others like Jongin doesn’t understand the need for one as a a human can pretty much do everything a droid can.

“Yes, Kyungsoo is already satisfied so he won’t need me for a while. Where do you wanna start?” Chanyeol asks.

“How about where Kyungsoo said he last saw Minseok?”

“Ok! Great idea since Kyungsoo was the last person to see Minseok alive.”

Jongdae wants to hit Chanyeol for his remark even though he knows Chanyeol means no harm but that means risking losing the only person who offered to help so Jongdae just trails behind Chanyeol, making strangling motions behind his back so Chanyeol can’t see it.

They check the hallways and the staircase just as Kyungsoo said but they can’t find a trace of Minseok. They ask around but the rest swears they have not seen Minseok and it’s not like Jongdae has any proof to accuse anyone, not yet.

“Hey, isn’t Luhan the only other one close to Minseok other than you Jongdae? Why not ask him?” Yixing says, looking up from his notebook in the living room. “You know what, I can’t think of lyrics for my song. Let me help too, I could use the distraction.”

And so the three of them make their way up to Luhan’s room but Jongdae is disappointed to find that it is locked. Jongdae wants to knock but Yixing stops him.

“I think he’s still asleep. He didn’t come home until this morning, we should just look elsewhere.”

And Jongdae has no choice but to agree.

“Don’t these Baozi-99s come with a tracking device or something? Baozi-99s are very expensive and advanced, even the older Jino droids have it so I’m sure Minseok came with one?”

“Oh! Why didn’t I think of that earlier! That’s right I can track him from my phone,” Jongdae says running back to his room before he even finishes his sentence.

He immediately clicks on the SM Droids application he downloaded onto his phone the day he bought Minseok. He logs in and waits for his phone to connect to Minseok’s signal…but wait this can’t be right.

Yixing and Chanyeol are looking at him from the doorframe of his room and he shakes his head.

“It says signal not detected. This is impossible unless Baozi ran out of battery or someone shut him down manually.” As the words leave his mouth, Jongdae starts to panic and he gets hysterical.

“Oh my god what if one of us stepped on him this morning without realising I mean he is so small after all it could have happened oh my god why did I let him roam the house without supervision what if he went outside I shouldn’t have left him on his own…”

“Hey, Jongdae, calm down,” Yixing says, sitting beside him and rubbing down his back.

Yixing and Chanyeol are kind enough to help Jongdae look for another hour before they went back to doing their own things. They checked everywhere, all the rooms, every crook and cranny and they even checked outside the house, walking down the street of their house in case Minseok got lost and didn’t know the way back which is pretty impossible since he is equipped with the most up to date GPS and Google Maps.

It is almost dinnertime when Luhan goes out of his room and Jongdae intercepts him before he can reach the toilet.

“Hyung, tell me you’ve seen Minseok today?” Jongdae pleads, he is getting tired and losing hope every minute.

“Hmm, I haven’t seen him all day. Did you misplace him?”

“No, I don’t know. When I woke up he was just…gone.”

“There, there,” Luhan pats Jongdae, “Maybe he just had somewhere to be. Maybe he found love and you know followed his feelings.”

Luhan leaves Jongdae feeling confused. He is sure Minseok loved him best, he wouldn’t have gone away to follow someone else, would he?

A week later and Jongdae is trying to get back on his feet. He had distributed flyers around the neighbourhood on the second day, pasting them on walls and lampposts hoping that someone would call him but Yixing had told him that all Baozi-99s looked the same and he stopped hoping after the fourth day.

They’re cleaning the house again as they do every Sunday and Jongdae has been put in-charge of vacuuming the rooms. He enters Luhan’s room, pleased at how clean it is as compared to some of his younger housemates and he starts to vacuum, not missing the dust hidden under beds and in between the furniture.

That is when something catches his eye under Luhan’s bed. It is glinting in the dark and thinking that Luhan must have dropped his jewellery, Jongdae gets on his knees, attempting to retrieve the item. It is soft to the touch and Jongdae almost withdraws his hand, thinking it might be something disgusting but he’s wearing gloves anyways.

When he sees he item in his hand he almost screams in horror. In his very palm is his missing Baozi-99, some of his droid’s skin is missing and it looks like someone chewed on it.
