So either way you shake it, The 5 year run of Chez Geek may be nearing an end. The Kingston residence of 9 different local Geeks over the past 5 years is not only in foreclosure but also in threat of being condemned. After 3 different attempts of selling the house, Alan's lack of maintenance finally caught up with him. While we do not have the complete list yet, we were informed by the building inspector of several problems with the house which are beyond our control. They will be returning in 2 weeks, and if Alan has not fixed them, they have suggested we may be out of a house, although nothing is certain.
One amusing note was in regards to James' room, which they deemed beyond the legal limit of messiness. As a result, it is on the list of things to be "fixed" before the house can pass safetly inspections. So kids, when mom told you to clean your room, she was serious for a reason. Failing to do so may just leave you homeless.
On a related note, I've been taking steps to remove a lot of unneeded clutter from my room and keeping my possessions light, save for things like my wall of books and a few odds and ends. I've even considered down-sizing my bed, which is X-Box Large. We've been kicking around the idea of moving for a while now, and there is no way my next room will be anywhere near the size of my current 2-room living space.
After visiting Rich and Judy's apartments in the city this weekend, I've also been inspired to modify my interior designs a bit. I've gotten some good idea for space saving, as well as the concept of painting my room the colors I want, complete with accent walls and trim. After having helped build our current office and separate retail store, I feel much more confident with my experience to do such changes. Instead of seeing this impending homelessness in a negative light, it has actually excited me. Of course, over the past five years, I have found myself in a mad love affair with my neighborhood, from the tug boats and the river, to the summer trolleys and beach in walking distance, and even the random cliffs and mini-woods that hide all sorts of caves, crevices and geological features beneath their leafy exterior. All said and done, I just hope my next local offers terrain even half as good as the Kingston Waterfront for my weekly runs.
So raise your glasses, fellow geeks, as we look on to what could be the end of a long run for The Geek House. It was a place for blogging droids(
r2droidlife), Halo-Smash-Talking-Friends and Recovering Mormons. It was a house that once identified each floor by a different color of light, and perhaps one of the only places where almost every room possessed both a weapon and a transformer simultaneously. Where else could you find people that considered a sabre necessary equipment for installing a network? No where but The Geek House.
