vampires

Sometimes, ohnotheydidnt cracks me up beyond measure. Every lady has a thing for vampires, and this post of top 10 vampires is sorely inadequate.

1. I love that just as soon as I whined to myself, "but where's GARY OLDMANNNN?" a whole flood of comments rectified the mistake. Somehow, he pulls off creepy, obsessed, and stalkerly a million times better than Edward Cullen. ♥

2. The eternal Spike vs. Angel debate. The truth is, Angel is only interesting as either Angelus or not anywhere near Buffy. Whereas Spike entertains in any capacity.

3. Not a huge fan of Skarsgard as Eric (I know, I know), but I gotta say, I loved him in Lady Gaga's Paparazzi video. I cannot dislike a man who wears purple silk socks. Plus, Eric's a little more interesting than Bill, who mostly just seems... old.

So I've been watching Spartacus: Blood and Sand because I need something to watch while SPN takes its time and something Roman tickles my nostalgia for HBO's Rome. I'm 6 episodes in, and it's kind of a bad show, and I get the feeling that the script writers are like 13-year-old boys. BUT THEY'RE NOT. The creative forces involve Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert (oh, Xena days), and Steven DeKnight... which sounds promising and yet it's still such an unrepentantly trassssshhhhyyyy silly awkward show. Like someone sat around culling bits from 300, Gladiator, and HBO's Rome, but with a smaller budget, clunkier actors, less thematic scope and MORE BOOBS AND BLOOD. SO MUCH BOOB. And some cock. Let's not forget. They also seem to be doing their best to drag themselves from under the shadow of Kubrick's Spartacus as much as possible. Which is not difficult, given the very opposite direction they're taking.

I hate how the whole purpose of Spartacus' wife is just to give him man-angst. She doesn't have any sort of personality. Come to think of it, neither does he, really. Nonetheless, I think the episodes get more watchable as they go on, if you filter out some of the uncomfortably gratuitous sexual objectification, and I found myself actually intrigued by ep 6. The show has an odd sort of quirky airheaded soap operatic charm. Also, I love Lucy Lawless. Will keep on watching.
