It's been a while since I've posted here [busy with school and such] So I've decided to write two new icon tutorials for you :] Remember that these tutorials are guide lines, so you'll have to play with settings to get the look you want. Enjoy!

To start, crop your image, Do not sharpen it in the beginning, if you want to sharpen the icon, do it at the end.

Now, screen the base layer 50%

Select the flood fill tool, pick a dark blue colour [#01031f] set it to exclusion:75%

Now go to layers>>new adjustment layer>>hue/sat/lightness: Red 50 Blue 50 Magenta 50

Select the flood fill tool, pick a medium blue colour [#3f87ff]set it to softlight:40%

Now go to new adjustment layer>>hue/sat/lightness: Master 35

Go to layers>>new adjustment layer>Colour Balance: Midtones -25 17 30 Shadows -40 25 25

Select the flood fill tool, pick a light beige colour [#f8ecd4] set it to multiply:30%

Now pick an scratchy or dusty looking background, add the texture to your image twice, the first time set it to softlight 20%, the second time set it to screen 90%

Now you're done! You can add brushed, light textures or text to your icon, and of course you can sharpen now.

I tried this tutorial and another icon and it came out looking completely different, so you'll really have to play around with the settings to get the right look.

To start crop your icon, and remember don't sharpen until the end.

Start by duplicating the base and setting it to screen 90%

Now pick the flood fill tool, choose a light blue colour [#9fc3f5] and set it to burn 100

Now pick the flood fill tool again, choose a dark blue colour [#01031f] and set it to exclusion 56

Now go to layers>>new adjustment layer>>hue/sat/lightness: Yellow 30 Cyan 40 Blue 40 Magenta 40

Now pick the flood fill tool and pick a light greenish colour [#def5b7]and set it to burn 60

Now go to layers>>new adjustment layer>>hue/sat/lightness: Master 33

Now pick the flood fill tool and pick a medium blue colour [#3f87ff]and set it to softlight 40

and your done!

Remember to leave comments and tell me what you think :]
