Parents' Weekend

Oct 07, 2005 22:24

Mum showed me an article about gays that had appeared in the Yale Daily News. Father scolded her. I scolded Father. Father didn't speak to me for the next hour.

Later that night at dinner, having enjoyed Brian Scholl's What Is Cognitive Science parent lecture, Father discussed at length why he was certain that Professor Scholl was without a doubt not only a Christian but also highly skeptical of evolution. I looked nervously at my chimichanga for about ten seconds. Then I explained how Scholl had spent a half-lecture with us outlining the importance of assuming an evolutionary perspective as one investigates cognitive processes. Father refrained from speaking to me for the duration of the meal until at last, while Mother used the restroom, he muttered something nervously about the invincibility of Biblical prophecies and excused himself to the restroom as well. I waited outside.

Then they bought me sweaters. And scolded me for failing to study properly. And for failing to let them buy me more clothing.

Two days left. : /
