Alright, now the explanations.

First off, Show your Bones. I liked this album a lot, though admittedly it was considerably weaker than Fever to Tell (largely due to tracks like "Warrior"). However, it is still a very good album, and in my opinion deserves spot 5 on here.

The Fratellis are fantastic. They're probably the best thing I've heard come out of Europe in a while, and in my opinion, that's where most of the really good music is coming from these days. Very up-beat and catchy, kind of like if you combined The Hives and The Strokes and improved them one thousand fold. If you're looking for a sample, check out the tracks "Henrietta" and "Whistle for the Choir"

Crane Wife is definitely a good album, as one would expect from The Decemberists. Honestly, if this were Picaresque instead, it would be number one on this list hands down. But like Castaways and Cutouts before it, I don't feel that it is quite as good as the preceding albums. However, still incredibly good and worth picking up.

Ah, Yes, Virginia. To think I used to not like the Dresden Dolls much. This album is mostly it's predecessor's equal, and also benefits from not having the insanely overplayed (and frankly I think they're sick of having to play it, as they very sarcastically call it their "hit single") "Coin Operated Boy". "Modern Moonlight" is easily an equal to anything on the first album, and tracks like "Dirty Business" and "My Alcoholic Friends" will definitely end up with many repeat listens. And to finish the album, "Sing" is just a downright beautiful song.

And finally, number one. Carnivore. Simon Dawes is by far the best new band I have heard in a long, long time. Every song on this album is fantastic, going back to a more true rock feel which, sadly, has been almost completely abandoned in modern music today. In that way it is one of the most original albums I've ever heard, simply because it doesn't try so hard to be original and different, much like many, many other bands I could mention that frequently top people's best albums lists. I recommend the entire album, but if I had to name a few tracks, I'd have to say "The Awful Things," "Save your Ticket," and of course, "Lazy Daisy" are some of the top ones on the album. I hope to here many, many more albums like this out of this band.
