Amara was the picture of stoic silence, her face intently watching Erik, the smile that threatened to break out at his rousing speech held back. They all had a job to do, and she knew without a doubt that each and every one of them would perform to the absolute best of their abilities. Because what Erik had said was true, this was their fight that would prove their right, once and for all, to live on this Earth.

It wasn't often she wore her full suit, fire-proof cloth covering her body from elbow to ankle, swords strapped to her back, knives on her thighs. This wasn't going to be a battle of power to power, mutant to mutant. Sometimes when dealing with powers incompatible with your own, you had to remember the past, and what had worked for centuries, had kept her people alive through the ages.

Her eyes flicked to Alex, wanting to tell him they'd be fine, that things would be fine, but...with Lorna here, it didn't feel right. She'd never been more aware that she was the other woman, and this was the man...almost the man...she'd been doing it with. None of that mattered right now, however, every fiber of her being focused on the upcoming battle, on the fight, on what could very well be their greatest moment, or their hardest fall.

Alex reached out to place a hand on Lorna's stomach. "Maybe you should just stay here?" he suggested. Yes, he was probably giving away her pregnancy to anyone watching closely, but he couldn't help it. It was the only way he could think of to convince Lorna to sit this fight out. Worrying about her was the main reason he didn't find her flattering uniform distracting.

He sighed though, pulling away after a moment to look around at these so-called X-Men. This was the world they lived in, and these kids were used to going to battle. But he wasn't.

His eyes paused on Amara. Now her outfit distracted him for a moment, but not for the reasons one would expect. Instead of being turned on by the way it showed her curves he focused on the weapons she carried. He had never realized before this moment just how lethal this world was, but here was Amara with no hesitation to kill. It made him sad and proud all at once.

"Alright," Alex commented, "let's go find some Guthries." The idea of hurting them--especially after helping one escape--was still foreign to him. But he knew now what they were capable of, and Alex took their kidnapping Ben personal.

Lorna looked at him, her hand sliding down to her side. "Why would I do that?" she asked pointedly, her eyes meeting his. Her child would be safe, she was an expert at creating forcefields. She would keep her safe, as long as she lived, so would her child. He couldn't ask her to sit out.

Stepping to the side slightly as to not catch the two of them in the energy that began to crackle around her, Lorna looked around. "I'll go up. I should spot them first." Granted, she was a ball of green energy and their fliers were winged but you couldn't always win.

Turning her attention to Amara, she offered the other girl a smile. "Good luck, Amara," she said genuinely. As much as she disliked the girl, she didn't want to see her die.

She didn't know what was going on between the two of them, their conversation...odd, but she didn't care. That was them, and she couldn't get distracted.

She smiled back at Lorna, softly, shrugging a little. "Yeah, you too." What else could she say? She wanted everyone to come out of this as best as they could, no casualties, even as much as that was unrealistic. If anything, Amara expected to be one of the ones who wouldn't make it. She cared too much about these people, and she had a very bad tendency to throw herself into situations, blade held high, not caring what danger was in her way. This was one of those situations where if you weren't going to give everything, there was no point in even being there.

She turned to Alex, nodding. "I'm going to go to the back. I want every major entrance covered. They aren't stupid, and I know there's going to be at least a few who try and catch our back end by surprise, thinking we're moving as a united front. Where...where are you gonna be?" she asked, hesitantly. It wasn't that she thought he couldn't handle it, but he wasn't their Alex, didn't have all the training.

He turned his head to look at Lorna, admiring the graceful beauty in which she stood and managed to hide her fear. How they could all do that was beyond him. She really was going to be a great mother.

"With Lorna," he answered, before giving Amara an apologetic look. He knew that this was going to hurt her, but it wasn't just the green haired woman standing beside him that he had to protect anymore, and he didn't have time to explain that.

And then he leaned forward to do something that their Alex never would have. He wrapped his arms around Amara and hugged her, whispering into her ear, "She needs me. She's not a killer," before pulling away. He stared into her blue eyes for a moment, trying to make her understand how grateful he was for everything she'd done, how much he was starting to care for her despite the fact that she belonged in this world, but he was afraid she might not be able to read it all in his expression. If he died today--as close to death as he could anyway--he wanted her to know what she meant to him.

Lorna kept her face neutral as she raised herself up slightly off the ground. The last thing she wanted was to show how much it hurt to see another Alex grow close to Amara. She instead focused on scanning the sky for any signs of the Guthries. There were far more important things to worry about than the mess that was that particular situation.

"We should go then," she said calmly as she looked over at him, her eyes fading to white as she tapped into the electro magnetic field. "I'm going to need to tap into the field closer to the satellite dish."

Her experiment with cloaking the mansion the night before had left her still pretty juiced with energy but it couldn't hurt. He'd never agree to letting her absorb a blast to convert so this was the safest way.

She pulled him to her quickly, breathing in the way he smelled. "That's what I'm afraid of," she replied, voice quiet. Lorna wasn't a killer, and if it came down to it, would she be able to have Alex's back if he couldn't fight like the mansion needed him to, expected him to?

She pulled back, patting at his shoulders, taking in everything his eyes were saying, but not allowing herself to respond, not the way she wanted. Feelings were weakness, especially at a time like this. "Go. Keep each other safe," she said, nodding. "I'll see you on the other side," she finished, quirking her head, starting to move backwards, toward where she was going to be stationed.

"I can do this," he assured her quietly, powering up so that she could see the containment plate glowing as well as the veins along his suit that were designed to gather the energy so that he could throw it from everywhere and not just his chest.

Moving away from Amara, he turned in time to see Lorna flying. "Jesus," he whispered. He was never getting used to how comfortable everyone was with their powers here. Eyes scanning the horizon, he followed after her and kept watch on the skies to cover her. Some of the Guthries did have wings.

Jay had wings.

Jay, second in command of the Guthrie family, was having a rather difficult time preparing herself. Sam had denied her the weapons she typically preferred, with good reason of course. The side-arm she had found in Russia years ago and loved just as long could easily be used agianst her and everyone in her perimeter.

I still wasn't fair.

Her next use however was just as frightening. Even as the battle was begining, she took to the skies with her peers and staked out her first kill- a boy, what. He couldn't have been more than fifteen or so, who looked like he wasn't so sure about his placement within the line. He kept vering to the left of the line, isolating himself from those around him- who, unbenownst to him, was his greatest protection. In a dive-bomb motion, she dropped herself from 200 feet to 3', grabbing his ankles and bringing him back up just as quickly. Once she knew he wouldn't survive the fall, she dropped him atop another child, killing one and sevearly damaging the other.

Two down- dozens to go.

Without a second thought to the lives whom she had just stolen, she took herself upward once again, watching and waiting for her next kill.

It wasn't without amusement then, that she cried out a Hawk's cry, unable to keep herself from the mirth.

Lorna saw the boy being raised up and then saw him fall. Judging the distance from where he would land and her current position, she swore softly. There was no way she'd reach him in time to save him. Drawing in more energy, she sent a blast his way, rendering him brain dead. He'd die but he wouldn't feel it. "Stay together!" she called out to the kids below before lowering herself down beside Alex.

"We need to take out the flyers."

The kids, most of the kids, could hold their own in a hand to hand fight but she couldn't see them lasting under air assault. There was a gust of wind and she closed her eyes for a minute before rising back into the air enough to be able to see their opponents. Catching a flash of metal from a passing flier, Lorna held her hand out and pulled at what turned out to be nothing more than metal fasteners on shoes. The man's descent imitated the boy's as did his landing.

It was the first time since his power manifested that Alex was actively using it outside of practice. He was wearing a uniform he still felt uncomfortable in. He didn't have any medals or pins on the uniform, but he still felt like he was unworthy to be wearing an outfit so decorated with experience. Havok was well known to be battle ready, and Alex wasn't sure if the enemy knew he wasn't Havok. They probably did, thanks to Lizzie, so it was up to him to step up and pretend to be the Havok they knew instead.

Running forward to keep up with Lorna, he paused in time to see another mutant kid--one of the Shadow King's people--who was throwing what looked like water at him. He didn't hesitate to throw a blast of plasma that passed through the water so quickly it barely became steam by the time the kid was ashes. Adrenalin pumping through his veins, he did his best to not linger at the realization that he'd just killed someone and instead glanced at Lorna.

"Flyers, right," he muttered, eyes scanning the skies again. He froze there on the battlefield, blue eyes stopping at the sight of Jay. Suddenly he wasn't sure if he could do this after all. It was Jay.

"You keep calling me beautiful. Lying is a sin you know."

His sad eyes scanned her wings, and for the first time since meeting her, he wasn't just admiring the shine of the feathers, he was searching for weaknesses. Alex knew that the key to taking her down permanently lied in destroying her wings.

And it fucking killed him.

"Lorna!" he yelled, "herd the redhead towards me!"

Years ago, back when she was happy and other people cared how she was, a 'sponsor' had found the time and funds to make her a uniform to protect her when out in battle. The woman was several years her senior, and one whose husband was a buisness associate of her boss. Their relationship was never seen to the public as anything but a cordial sponsorship of a young woman, but Jay fell hard for her, and the other needed someone to love. Though while together, she never had a need for the suit beyond the bedroom, Jay still kept it with her, a reminder of the older woman's perfume and he promises intended to keep her from harm. Time had passed, and just as Jay had changed, additions had been made to the gig as well. The zippers and snaps were all a form of plastic, but the fur? Was oh so very, very real and very warm.

She was was the head of her unit of fliers, and cursed each time one of her own was taken out. They were a rare breed, yet being taken down like so much cattle as the terrestrial mutants below. She rose higher for a moment, and scanned the groundwork for those taking out her men.

There. Polaris and Havok as sweet as lovers below. "Lizzie!" She called out, dropping once again to retrieve her near-twin. "Think you can crush the Jolly Green Giant?"

Her sister grinned in reply- her hand expanding around a boy's neck and snapping it effortlessly. It was all too loud for anything verbal, and instead raised a hand above to be picked up in a fly-by swoop.

Lorna looked down at Alex and nodded. "I'll circle around and swoop down," she yelled back. Raising herself up, she began to search her out. She was confident in Alex despite the nagging feeling in the back of her head that kept wondering if he could remember this wasn't the Jay from his world.

"Ladies!" she called out when she spotted Jay carrying Lizzie. "Long time no see. How are things? We really should catch up one of these days." With a sneer that faintly resembled her father's, Lorna's hand reached out, catching a nearby mutant. Concentrating on the iron in his blood, she stopped the blood flow, effectively stopping his heart. "So, shall we play a game of chase?"

Stepping off the earth's electric magnetic waves as if she was stepping off a porch, Lorna launched herself towards where Alex stood waiting.

Oh man, she had seen him. Jay had looked right at him and not cared, and that hurt more than knowing she was fighting for the other side.

Alex powered up, the Havok uniform glowing among the carnage like a fucking torch. Some of the students paused to look at him, as if they thought he was the Alex they all knew, but he ignored them and simply focused on collecting as much energy as he could. Though he had always attempted to keep his power in check, now there wasn't time for that.

He had never felt anything like it before outside of the nexus itself, and he realized now that the nexus was probably allowing him to absorb more cosmic rays than he normally did. He felt incredibly powerful, and it passed through his body like liquid confidence. Putting his palms together, he pulled them apart slowly, a blue ball of energy growing there. Concentrating so hard that his eyes began to glow blue, Alex looked up towards the sky, spotted Jay and targeted her as he threw the power at the person he trusted most back in his world.

Lizzie and Jay trusted each other more than any two sisters alive could, so when Lorna dared them to a chase there was no question on their end what must happen. Using the unnatural strength that came with the wings, tossed her sister towards the green haired mutant, head first with hands extended.

Jay herself had her own mission, for as soon as Lorna was distracted, she dropped herself out of immediate danger within the battle. Alex threw a shot of energy towards her, causing her to drop several feet in her attack towards him. "Come on lover boy!" She taunted, she wanted him under his arms, but beggers cannot be choosers...

Lorna was about to throw a blast at one of their fliers when she felt Lizzie hit her. Unfortunately, she had lowered her forcefield to take out a male mutant and yet to put it back up otherwise she would have been fine. "Let's go for a flight," she said as she tried to keep herself up despite the other mutant that was now hanging from her shoulders.

It wasn't like flying with someone she wanted up there with her. The extra weight made the strong but skinny Lorna begin to sink down towards the ground and she madly scrambled to create a blast that would take Lizzie out.

Gritting her teeth, she tried to buck the girl off by flying close to the ground and in between trees.
