The Czech Mint commemorates the return of legionnaires to their homeland by the issuance of the fourth and last gold coin from the miniseries entitled The Year 1920, which deals with the building of Czechoslovak statehood.

Bachmač, Doss Alto, Terron, Zborov - these are just some of the battlefields of the First World War, where the Czechoslovak legions drew attention to themselves. Troops of soldiers who denounced obedience to the emperor and joined the Treaty fought in Russia, Italy and France, and thus contributed significantly to the establishment of an independent Czechoslovakia. While a democratic republic was established in their homeland, the legionaries set out on a miserable journey home. However, it lasted for several years due to the Russian civil war, in which the Czechoslovaks played a key role against their will. Siberia, Japan, China, Singapore, Ceylon, India, Persia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, USA - all these countries have become a stop on the way of our compatriots. “Numerous  new and unprecedented military transports that were admired by the  local population have passed through coastal regions and various ports  in both hemispheres of the world in the last two years. These were Czechoslovak legions, returning home from Siberia in 1919 and especially in 1920. They were preceded by a legendary legend about their military prowess and fame around the world, " wrote  archivist František Šteidler in his book. However, the legionnaires  were able to impress with anything other than their brave deeds. "A  short stay in the most diverse ports around the world so that their  inhabitants get to know not only Czechoslovak legionnaires, but also Czech music, Sokol physical training and sports. Concerts  of military bands were held with great success in many places, and  international competitions with local athletes, mainly footballers, were  organized, " added the chronicler of the heroes, who bought our country with their own blood.

The reverse side of the coin, which was processed by the academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů,  is dominated by two means of transport that served the legionnaires on  their long journey home. The upper part there is a depiction of an armored train that experienced battles with the Bolsheviks on the Trans-Siberian Highway, and the lower part shows a steamship that took the Czechoslovaks across the ocean. The composition is completed by the inscription THE RETURN OF LEGIONARIES INTO THE COUNTRY 1920, together with the tricolor that permeates the entire miniseries and also appears on the obverse side, where it is supplemented with the linden branches. Since the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the license of a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, their obverse side still bears its necessary elements - the portrait and the name of Queen Elizabeth II, a nominal value of 10 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2020.

Do not forget that you can store a complete collection of four coins in a wooden etui that you will also find in the offer of the Czech Mint.
