Тетское наступление (также известно как наступление Тет или Новогоднее наступление) - общеупотребимое название первого широкомасштабного наступления коммунистических сил во время войны во Вьетнаме в 1968 году.

The  Viet Cong Tet Offensive launched on 31st January 1968, it was a  concerted surprise attack on over a hundred towns and cities. This date  in the traditional date that coincides with the Buddhist celebrations of  the lunar new year period, known as Tet, thus tradition a time of  truce, hence chosen to maximise impact.
The major consolidation of forces was unusual for the Viet Cong, whom  had long been successful in jungle guerrilla tactics. The attack  surprised the American and Australian commands who had thought the Viet  Cong were being defeated. Far from it. Although the offensive ultimately  lost its impetus and impact, it was initially very successful.
The Viet Cong captured most of Hue, the original capital, and Saigon  where they even penetrated the grounds of the America embassy. Another  major target of attack was Ba Ria (between Nui Dat and Vung Tau) when,  at 5am, heavily armed Viet Cong immediately took over its main  buildings.
Australian, New Zealand and American forces were initially surprised by  the fierceness of the attack but fought back, hard, as always. During a  grim 24 hours our soldiers, supported by armoured personnel carriers and  American Phantom jets, fought house-to-house, gradually driving out the  enemy.
Depicted on this exclusive 50th year commemorative .925 Silver coins is  the M113 armoured personnel carrier. A vehicle heavily used by the U.S.  Army and allied forces including the Australians, it earned the nickname  “Green Dragon” by the Viet Cong due to its ability to break through  heavy thickets of the jungle to overcome the enemy. It was also known as  an APC or an ACAV by the allied forces.
Also artistically portrayed on this proof commemorative coin is an  Australian solider positioned in Saigon on top of the named “Hotel  Saigon” which served as the billets for Australian personnel working in  the capital. A location that came under attack from about 40 Viet Cong  soon after 2.30 am on the 30th January 1968.
This exclusive Bradford Mint 50th Anniversary One Dollar .925 Silver  coin commemorates and remembers the loss and sacrifice by the Australian  and allied forces during the Tet Offensive.
