The Rotweiller Attack

'He jumped me!'

Battle Scars

Right Side

Last friday night I was out walking our dogs when a neighbor's rottweiler got loose (they were going from the car to their house without leashing their dog) and attacked Buddy. When I kicked the dog, he just picked Buddy up in his mouth and shook. So I kicked him again, and by this time the dogs owner was on the scene. So Buddy was released. As soon as I got home, I put him in good light and tried to wash out the wounds with hydrogen peroxide. That's when I noticed the deep puncture wounds on both sides. Poor Buddy - a frightening trip to 'Pets are People, too' emergency room service and he had to spend the night. He has two drain on the right side, one on the left, stitches many places, and a little splint on his right paw. He's sleeping much of the day (thankfully), but we still have to watch because we don't want Callie helping him lick his wounds or worse, pulling that rubber tubing that drains the fluid build-up. I don't really understand why he has 3 drains, but 5 pieces of rubber tubing stitched into his skin.

The good news is that the neighbors are being responsible about it. They have agreed to get rid of the dog - this is not the first incident, just the first time injuries were involved. And they agreed to pay the vet bill for Buddy ($974 and counting). He has to go back Wednesday to have the drains removed and again in a week to have the stitches removed.

Could have been much worse. Buddy could have been killed r I could have had a heart attack right there on the street (which seemed like a distinct possibility until some other neighbors came and calmed me and Buddy down)
