Title: Learn to Deal
Rating: G
Character: Lorne
Genre: General
Warnings: character death
Disclaimer: I own nothing
Author’s note: okay here is another Lorne one shot after Adrift and Lifeline. I am working on more but I don’ know when I will be able to post. My uncle died this morning and I will be at my best friends for awhile (it was her uncle but we have known each other since we were 6 and our family’s are each others)
Everyone calls it the morning after; it is quieter and more terrifying for that silence than anything Lorne remembers ever seeing in Atlantis.
Elizabeth Weir is gone. She is gone and there is nothing in this Galaxy or back in the Milky Way that can make that constant disappear. It is not a dream, oh how he wishes it was a dream because if it was he could probably forget the looks on people’s faces in time. He has to keep himself together, he is at the moment the one in everyone will turn to in Atlantis because no one is going to bother Sheppard or his team with anything, even if they were capable of actually handling it, and Lorne does not think even Teyla could pull it off.
He has known Doctor Weir for two years, but he has not known Elizabeth and that more than anything assures Lorne that it is not just Sheppard and his team hurting, but that they have a different pain. The pain of losing Elizabeth, their friend and leader, and in Sheppard’s case maybe more, though that is something never talked about and Lorne has enough experience from years of seeing the fall out of General O’Neill and Colonel Carter that he does not question it, and knows no one else does either.
It is to close to Carson, and he can barely keep himself going and he knows, that those that have been here since the first year it’s even worse. He also knows that the newest people to Atlantis are out of their depth and don’t understand and probably never will. He has lost people, he has seen too many friends, to many teams go through the Gate and never come back, he has seen too many die out in the field, on missions, during ambushes but he never once thought that he would lose his commander. He has gotten use to looking out after Sheppard of being with Doctor Weir in those hours or days where his team or he is missing, and that brought them closer. It is the same thing that went through his and everyone else’s mind when SG-1 was missing, and the worry that this time they won’t be so lucky. However he never once gave thought to losing Doctor Weir, that would be the equivalent of losing Hammond and that is just unthinkable even inside the Stargate Program.
Elizabeth Weir is gone. IT is not until months later, when her things are shipped back to Earth that Evan Lorne believes that she is dead.
