Co-written with Nicke, Flubb, and CajunJack looked around the room, feeling anxious. Would Halling understand? He'd given Carson permission to discuss his case with Halling. He could only hope that the Athosian leader wasn't offended. He debated discussing the problem with the rest of his team. If they were going to work together, he was going to ( Read more... )

Halling smiled. "That would be nice. If we have good mission maybe we could have some."

He was about to say that there were some Athosian delicasies that they could try, but thought better of it.

"That sounds like a plan-- chocolate party after any successful mission." There was a knock at the door and Jack went and opened it. "Oh good. Food. Thanks for bringing it," he said, stepping out of the way of the two people bearing food-- Corporal Bonebrake and... he thought she was a linguist or anthropologist, French or Belgian or somesuch.

"No problem, sir," Bonebrake said.

"Airman," Jack corrected. "You outrank me."

Bonebrake nodded. "Of course I do, sir." He headed for the door.

The French-ish Daniel-type laughed and gave Jack a wink. She brushed past much closer than she needed to, murmuring, "Anything you need, cheri," and then she was walking out the door, her swinging gait drawing attention to certain assets.

"Yeah, not going to happen," Jack muttered to himself, then turned back to his team. "Okay, well, dinner's on!"

Calvin relaxed a little, as the food was brought in. So far it hadn't been such a bad experience he decided. Hansen and Halling seemed to be nice, about Jackson he wasn't sure yet. If he was anything like O'Neill, who liked to ignore the rules, it would get complicated at a certain point. But better to be on this team than to be in a team with McKay. Though, there was something about the way Jackson eyed Halling from the corners of his eyes that made Calvin suspicious. Maybe it was the stress, he thought. He was seeing things.

"Looks great," he said, and decided to enjoy the food.

Jack passed out plates as he sat down and then picked up the first serving dish. "According to Earth tradition," Jack explained, "everyone takes the dish in front of them and then you serve yourself and pass the dish to the left until everyone's gotten everything."

Sitting right next to Jackson, Kavanagh took the bowl he was offered. It was some salad with mixed greens. He helped himself to a load, then handed the bowl to Halling.

"I had an aunt who used to read from the bible and say a prayer of thanks at every meal. I didn't like going to their place, because it took so long before I finally was allowed to have food," Calvin said, with a shudder remembering the summers he had to spend at his aunt's place.
