Aiden pulled the travois into the clearing, eyes never stopping in their search for potential threats even as he moved forward. His eyes took in the signs of previous tracks, recent signs of other refugees, but he could see no one in the clearing ( Read more... )

"You bet," Grace Bynum answered, giving the lieutenant a weak smile.

With a last look towards the bushes where Abrams and Gortim should soon appear, Aiden hit the first symbol for the address. He knew he remembered 6 of the symbols, and thought the 7th might be a bit more trial than error as about 3 symbols were unfamiliar.

He finished dialing the six symbols he knew and then reached for the the most likely symbol. "Knock Knock. Did I find a home?" He said to himself absently as the last symbol lit then disengaged them all. "Damn, then this one?" Aiden moved quickly to redial, something giving him a weird vibe. "Keep your eyes open Bynum, you got my Six?" Aiden had a feeling, something was up, and that hadn't usually meant good things for him so far.

John had assembled his ragtag team in very short order and loaded up with a lot of water, electrolytes, and med supplies. He glanced back now at the group-- Sergeants Fields, Hernandez, and Springour, plus Tech Sergeant Ruiz, and Doctor Beckett. "Okay, folks, the reports say the jungle's right up close to the gate-- enough clearance for a person, but a close shave for a jumper or dart. So everyone hold on to your seats. Cloak won't stay activated through a wormhole, so we can't cloak till we're through." He looked over at Fields who was sitting in the co-pilot's spot. "Dial it up, Sergeant."

Carson felt the butterflies in his stomach flutter at the thought of going through the gate and of course he was worried about possible survivors. He'd loaded both himself and Jerry down with medical supplies ranging from surgery gear to pain relievers.

Aiden startled and let out a sharp "Damnit!" as the DHD powered down and the first chevron started encoding. He turned and yelled to Abrams and Gortim "Get back! Take cover!" taking in the small clearing and Bynum he made a quick decision to stand his ground. A bullet-less P-90 and a sharp stone were about useless, but Bynum was strapped to two thin logs.

With a grunt he moved the travois to behind the DHD, trying to give Bynum as much cover as he could while he took a stance to the side of the DHD. "God, please let it be some natives we contacted before, so I can bluff with the P-90 if absolutely necessary."
