Carson felt ready to face the infirmary. His conversation with Halling had helped him even though he still felt bad. He'd had a bad day ( and nothing )
Perna nodded at his explanation. She was fully aware that there always was gossip, and that there always were people who spread it. She just didn't get why people were willing to participate in it, when they had to be aware that other people could get hurt by it. People like Carson, who certainly never hurt someone willingly. She followed him to the examination room and waited until he'd closed the door.
"I just want you to know, that I do not care about what people gossip, Carson," she said. "I don't know you for very long, but I think I know you well enough to call you a true friend." When Carson opened his mouth to reply, she gently touched his arm. There were a few things she wanted to tell him, and if she didn't tell him now, maybe she would never work up the courage to do so. "I have to admit that it was a bit of a surprise to find out about you and Rodney when we arrived here."
She gave his arm a firm squeeze as he wanted to protest. "It wasn't your fault, Carson," she explained. "I made some assumptions, which weren't right, but you never lied to me, so I can't hold you responsible for things I did assume."
