Day 52, Email to re: security video, attn. Weir, Sheppard, Heightmeyer, Beckett [F]

Not in a particularly good mood after his little chat with Elizabeth in the mess hall, Rodney returned to the science lab. He still had to review the security footage, and procrastinating wasn't a possibility anymore. He'd avoided that certain task all morning, but the sooner he dug up the video, the sooner he was done with it.

With a sigh he sat down at his workstation, and started the application to view the video. )

The point of my last email was to make clear my position that the decision concerning the final disposition of the prisoner, whatever your reasons, was a military matter, and not one which fell under my purview. Whether or not a prisoner's last wish should be honored, as long as, as you have said, it "does not present a danger to the expedition or allies" is up to you. I, personally, have no problem with this as a policy.

I also said that I do understand that there was no time for anyone to discuss or consult in anyway the actions which occurred during the incident in question. In any future incidents, where there might be time for such consultations, I trust that channels of communication between the two of us will remain open.

As to whether allowing the wraith to perform a 'coup-de-grace' on the prisoner lifts the possibility of murder charges from Dr Zelenka, I am not at all certain. The question of whether it would stand in a court of law is, naturally, moot, but the fact remains that the wounds he inflicted were mortal, and no amount of intervention available to us would have saved her life.

When the time comes to examine Dr Zelenka's actions in any official capacity, I believe our focus should be on his state of mind, and how responsible for his actions he might or might not have been, but that is a discussion for another time.
